Punk Rock
« on: May 06, 2011, 04:34:02 am »
How many people on here are into punk rock?  One of the most influential contemporary music genres around, it has grown from being boy-next-door three chord bands from the 60's to angry and frustrated teenage brats.

I've had the good fortune to meet Johnny Lydon and Glen Matlock from the Sex Pistols in 1996 when they took their Filthy Lucre tour to Australia, and was interviewed on the news with my hair spiked up with gel and a ring and chain through my nose and ear.

For every angry, frustrated and depressed teenager out there is a band that knows and cares for how you feel in your difficult years.  Here are my faves:

1) The Kingsmen: "Louie Louie" - the song that spawned punk rock

2) The Sex Pistols: "Anarchy In The UK"

3) Sham 69: "Angels With Dirty Faces"

4) Jilted John: "Jilted John"

5) X-Ray Spex: "Oh Bondage, Up Yours!" (RIP Poly Styrene who passed away last week)

6) The Hotrods: "Do Anything You Wanna Do"

7) The Saints: "I'm Stranded"

8) The Ramones: "Swallow My Pride"

9) The Boomtown Rats: "Looking After No.1"

10) Suzi Quatro: "Mind Demons" (not technically punk, but came out during the punk era)

11) The Dead Kennedys: "California Uber Alles"

12) Splodgenessabounds: "Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps Please"

I love punk rock! My sister got me started on it back in the day. Mostly Celtic punk such as...
The Real McKenzies:
But also stuff like The Dead Kennedys:
Funny, I also just did a small report on the punk movement in my history class.

I play bass in a punk rock band. We started out sounding more 90's pop punk, kinda like Blink 182, Sum 41, Green Day. But we have now gone more into the old school punk-rock like The Ramones, and slightly more mondern than that, Screeching Weasel, and The Queers.
I became aware of my destiny: to belong to the critical minority as opposed to the unquestioning majority.

Punk is like a fine wine, the older it is, the better it is. The closer to the true ideals of punk rock and experience it is.

I saw the Sex Pistols live in the 90s with original lineup except Sid of course so they had iggy Pop I also like the  on base. Brilliant concert. I also like Charged GBH, Storm troopers of Death (Became Anthrax), Condemned 84, Compis mentis, Buzzcocks, Black Flag to name a few.

A great song! Though my favorite is Warriors Code.

I'm so excited. My favorite band, Rise Against, announced they are recording a new album yesterday.
