God the 70s were a strange time; probably why most people who lived through them don't remember most of it.

Sci-fi and fantasy have loads of non-sexual nudity, though Heinlein's works do not tend to include that. For him, most of the nudity is very sexual - and includes incest and all sorts of other line-crossing behaviors.

But Sci-fi is a place of great interest, nudity-wise. I suggest Ursula LeGuin's "lefthand of darkness" and "the Dispossessed" as other great and philosophical examples.

He had books that included nudity that also included various forms of taboo sexuality - polyamory and incest and whatnot. That doesn't mean that the nudity was sexual. The fact is quite the opposite - the vast majority of characters viewed nudity as a fairly unremarkable state, to be treated no differently than being dressed. Which is exactly the nudist philosophy, in theory.

I was watching some old "Babylon 5" episodes last night and they had a co-ed locker room where the pilots got into and out of their flight suits.  The scenes tend to be short and usually showing people who had already mostly gotten dressed but they'd have men and woman chatting together.

Ah but that is just it, in Heinlein's worlds the nudity may be unremarkable, but then so was the incest, etc. And they were always very much linked... Example. Over the course of a few pages you encounter a family where nudity is the norm, leading to a boy asking a girl what the difference is between the two of them (girls parts being mostly out of sight), leading to the mother suggesting she spread her legs and show him ("wink at him with it"), leading to incest, leading to whole huge orgies of incest and time-travelers taking huge risks for the sake of incest. Believe me, neither Heinlein nor his readers were meant to miss the idea.

Please re-discussed nudism in the science-fiction literature. I have heard in the book "Slaughterhouse 5 or The Children's Crusade" by Kurt Vonnegut, is nudism included.

Philip Jose Farmer - To Your Scattered Bodies Go (Riverworld) everyone wakes up reincarnated and nude. Doesnt last long but its how the books starts.

PS: The Zardoz stuff, I cant think of the nudity within the imortals area now without the Sean Connery pic...... why did you have to do that? :)
