I just used Aperture for the first time yesterday and it looks pretty nice. I have been using Photoshop for about a year and I like it. I have never heard of IMatch but I will check it out.

Yeah, Aperture does look awesome but I can't buy a computer for one software.  :undecided:

I found iMatch in a comparison of cataloguing software. I have thousands of photos and no way of sorting or grouping them for easy retrieval. So far I haven't found the right cataloguing software or even just a tagging app and I really don't want to write one myself but I may have to.

I'd like to be able to bring up photos one at a time and check off from a list of tags all that apply rather than typing new tags for every pic. If anyone has any ideas about software that can do that please advise.

I took a look at IMatch and that is pretty much what it looks like; more of a storage system for cataloging rather than editing. It sounds like what you are looking for. I didn't look at the price.

Welcome to the photography thread! Talk about all your photographic intrests here.

I am a new aspiring photographer looking for: a good camera, good photographers to study, good techniques to learn, and editing software. Any advice on those subjects?

I should add that any pictures are better than no pictures so maybe don't overthink it - just get started and figure out what works best for you as you go.

Any idea what you would like to photograph?

I like to shoot anything; landscape, wildlife, under water, but I really love to shoot people. I shot this one a few days ago-

That is a nice shot of the native. Every now and then I get lucky and a shot comes out looking like that ;)

I prefer shooting landscapes - I always feel awkward taking someone's picture.

I get to travel a lot within western canada for work and see some amazing things so it's probably time to invest in better equipment so I can share my experiences.

Thank you Tonebender,

I like to shoot people annd it doesn't make my uncomfortable. I like to shoot at gatherings where costumes are involved; Pow wows, rodeos, renaissance fests. I also love to do underwater photography!

I have a few more from this shoot in the members section.  From a shoot me and Kodi (Hopefullywe in IYNO) did a short while ago.  Still have more I need to edit.
