I heard about Les Paul yesterday....... one of the great ones....... RIP......

les paul

Les Paul, a pioneer of both guitars and multi-track recording, as well as a great guitarist, died August 13, 2009.

In response to the death of 1988 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Les Paul, the Rock Hall has issued the following two statements:

“Without Les Paul, we would not have rock and roll as we know it,” said Terry Stewart, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. “His inventions created the infrastructure for the music and his playing style will ripple through generations. He was truly an architect of rock and roll.”

“Les Paul was truly a unique human being,” said Jim Henke, vice president of exhibitions and curatorial affairs. “He was an artist who made his mark as a tremendously influential guitarist. He was also an inventor, the man responsible for the solid-body electric guitar and multi-track recording. Few people have accomplished as much as Les did in his legendary career. We will truly miss him.”

Pastorius is a legend! What great talent! Such a shame at just 35 years old he was a pauper and often homeless then beaten to death by a night club manager.

Marcus Miller is a living legend! Brilliant musician. Sting? well he's a brilliant singer/songwriter but not that great on bass.

Danny Gatton (Wikipedia link)

I was not aware of him until a brief tribute to him on National Public Radio October 4th, the fifteenth anniversary of his death.

Quote from: Wikipedia
His skills were most appreciated by his peers such as Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, Steve Earle, and his childhood idol Les Paul. During his career, Gatton appeared on stage with guitar heroes such as Alvin Lee and Jimmie Vaughan...

He did not enjoy the career success he might have due to his independence and his reluctance to tour:

Quote from: NPR
Danny Gatton was born and raised in Maryland, and he remained fiercely loyal to its rural outskirts. Touring was an excruciating experience. He hated being away from his wife and daughter, his farm and his cars.

Gatton played country music, jazz, blues, rockabilly, old rock and roll, and soul music. This range of talent may have made him hard to categorize.

Gatton also suffered from depression, and ended his life on October 4, 1994, at the age of 49.

on my opinion the best guitar player is mark knopfer, chief of the dire straits. when i here him playing it is to me like he is one with his guitar, as if it is a part of his body. he plays like he never did anything else.

on the other side there is carlos santana. he is my second favourite player.

listen to mark knopflers song local hero!!!

I'm probably gonna say a few names now no-one knows, but as for metal goes, I go toward more extrema bands and my list will consist of extreme metal guitarists starting with the one which is mine, and apparantly also the public favourite
Adam Darski a.k.a. Nergal from Behemoth, the band won ALL public contests in terrorizer magazine (one of the top metal magazines), amongst other: best guitarist, best band, best live band, best drummer, best bassist, best album, best singer all voted number one by public votes
Karl Sanders and Dallas Toller Wade from Nile, for bringing the fastest and most technical album in the last years, they really are guitar gods
John Gallagher from Dying Fetus, not only his guitar skills are amazing, it's also nice to see he's a down to earth person with very interesting views on life.
Branislav Panic (pronounced panish) from Disdained, a Serbian upcoming band, friend of mine, and guitar skills far beyond his age, he also composes teh songs in the band and is a techniacl genius belonging up there with the best of the brutal
now 90% who read all that will  hate the music i just said, but at least i got my voice heard (or my letters read at least :p)

My favorite guitarist is Hide from X-Japan. It's great to see him and Pata (second-guitarist of X Japan), to play as both synchronously guitar. Unfortunately, Hide is died. May he rest in peace.

My favorite solo from him is from the song "Endless Rain".
