Title: Kleren Aan, Kleren Uit (Clothes On, Clothes Off)
Post by: NaturalInNY on August 07, 2011, 03:18:38 am
Kleren Aan, Kleren Uit (Clothes On, Clothes Off) (http://vimeo.com/25450922)

Quote
Clothes On, Clothes Off is a short documentary about the 12 year old Frana, whose parents are naturists, they like to walk around naked. Frana is having doubts if she wants to take her clothes off.

I thought it was a very well done piece about a young girl losing her comfort with naturism as she reaches puberty, similar to the way the topic was dealt with in Diary of a Teenage Nudist.

I enjoyed that. It was easy to relate to.

It's kind of hard not to compare this short with "Diary of a Teenage Nudist".

And although shorter (only 14 minutes), I think it's much more "focused" than "Diary..." - I don't like the ending part of Diary, where the girl goes searching for pervs, and there's that creepy guy. "Kleren Aan, Kleren Uit" sticks much more to the naturist core, being kind of emotional and light-hearted at the same time.

Kudos to the producers, great short film.

I agree. I can see why they covered it, but it's hardly relevant to real naturism.

Beautiful - I would like to see a follow up in 3-4 years and see what that outcome is.  She really gives the impression that the shorts are just for now.

I think it's great to find people who are willing to have an honest conversation about naturism/nudism and their own personal opinions.  Thank you for sharing this.

A very beautiful film. I think the same problem many children of nudist parents. It's nice to see that the parents not force the girl to be a nudist. Thus the girl can decide itself whether it wants to be a nudist.

I would as well. This was a beautiful submission and work.  Thank-you!

Great film, well thought out. I find the premise to be quite deep as it focus on a youth who is surrounded by naturists at home yet cant seem to find the joys of the lifestyles, as her siblings do. My analysis of it is that she is a lost adolescent seeking acceptance among her peers and understanding of the changes brought on by puberty. Perhaps her problems are related to the mysterious nature of puberty, who's mechanisms are known yet unknown and simultaneously inexplicable, therefore have left her in the awkward stage between childhood innocence and adult realities. Perhaps when her hormones calm down, she will regain the comfortability she once enjoyed as a naturist child. It would be great if the filmmakers followed up on this film in a couple of years, and perhaps compiled it with similar stories. Such a film would be great in helping those struggling with puberty and naturism.

:3145 I think her dad was right, she just needs a bit more life experience. I also think she may be laking a bit in conidence as a lot of pubescent children do. It was a great film though, I felt a little sorry at her times, I felt like everyone was trying to pressure her into it which I don't think is fair. I loved the bit towards the end when she was sat talking with her dad, it showed a great relationship between the two that really warmed my heart. I hope in a few years time she can let go and enjoy naturism with the rest of her family.

 :3145 too!

I was expecting the father to say it was easier to be naturist when he was young - but it was more difficult, that's interesting. She is such a nice person.

Interesting story of a girl between two choices. Dutch with English subtitles.

To bare or not to bare, that is her question.

Merged eagleday's topic about the video with the older one.

Very nice video . . completely realistic, completely understandable.  We all take different approaches to the subject of naturism, hers is not what mine was.

I found the brother's differentiation between "nudist" and "naturist" to be very interesting, that a nudist is naked all the time but that a naturist is naked only when it is appropriate.  That could lead to an interesting discussion beginning with "define appropriate"

Those are the choices? The choice to listen to the Dutch audio or read the English subtitles? I shall take the subtitles - the language is much easier to understand for me and I prefer subs for accurate understanding anyway.

I feel a bit bad for her that people keep highlighting the fact that she's not naked. I mean, I think they should just let her do what she wants to do and not draw attention to the difference. Puberty is awkward enough as it is.

Not only that, but I think that naturist camp site looks awfully sterile and boring. I'd struggle to be enthusiastic about going there, naked or not.

I liked this. I feel it captures a pretty normal response from a kids point of view who is going through puberty. I have not experienced beaches or resorts but I imagine a lot of teens keep at least their shorts on. But who knows.

They tend to be. I avoid them like the plague. I learnt a long time ago not to go to things or places I wouldn't otherwise want to just because I can be naked. Its a quick way to find yourself in grim, depressing places that sometimes have an age demographic that feel like god's waiting room.

I liked it :) Plus she seemed to be speaking a form of German which I have a very tiny a bit of skill in even after 5 years... I was picking stuff up :) I can completely understand it, I haven't been to a nudist resort after puberty, I don't know what the experience will be like, but I'm going to try my best :)

Interesting.

She's obviously feeling a lot of pressure and seemed concerned about what her peers would think if they found out at a time when her peers are probably the most important thing in her life (as she looks for a baseline to try to figure out who she is).

Also interesting that her friend that appeared in the video seemed interested in trying it out.

Also it sounds like she put on even more clothes than she would've normally because they were filming it and for some reason they weren't bugging her brother about making the same choice unless they made another video of him that we just don't know about.

In any case it was refreshing to see the real thing with a real emotional struggle as opposed to the canned 'Educating Julia' stuff.

You too speak a form of German . . . it is called English.  She, however, was speaking Dutch.

Dutch is much closer to German than modern-day English though. Simply a matter of English having incorporated bits of pretty much every major language in the old world, from Latin to French to German. Dutch is pretty close to some of the heavier dialects of low German, but knowing German will help you not much more with Dutch than by providing a means to make an educated guess about words, and it is probably the same the other way around. Many people near the Germany-Netherlands border can communicate in both languages fairly well, but they are still distinct languages, much like Spanish and Catalan.

I enjoyed it despite having to rely on the subtitles.  I made me wonder how I would have reacted if I'd been in her situation at her age.
