Title: Otaku family! Manga/Anime geeks
Post by: skinnydipper2 on August 28, 2017, 06:48:27 pm
Who loves manga and anime? Share your favorite anime. Do you ship, and if so who? Do you go to any conventions? Maybe a naked carpool opportunity...

I love all kinds of anime. Twin Star Exorcists, Owari No Seraph, Yowamushi Pedal, Clean Freak! Aoyama kun, Food Wars!, Yuri! on Ice, and many others....

I know this is a real long shot but anyone going to YaoiCon in the Bay? Is there anyone that likes yaoi? haha

I like anime :D

I tend to prefer the fluffy slice-of-life/romance genres, but I'm generally open to watching anything that isn't horror.

Favorite from last season was Tsukigakirei, current favorite this season is Tsuredure Children, and favorite anime overall is Clannad. Also hyped for when the A Silent Voice movie comes out in the US in October ^_^

Not much into yaoi, personally. Incidentally, it looks like Yaoicon is super close to where I live though, lol.

You like romance but not yaoi? You must not be gay haha

Tsukigakirei seems interesting. I don't get as excited about a straight couple though haha

And if you're close to Yaoicon, maybe we could meet?...

that'd be correct xD
I'd be open to meeting up somewhere if you're gonna be in south bay (or I can head to the city) - feel free to PM

I wouldn't say I'm obsessed or anything, but I do enjoy anime. The whole art style and everything. I do like watching the shows for it and have taken a few, alternate routes, to be able to watch a website from New Zealand when I normally couldn't. I've been happy re-watching Outlaw Star on Toonami on tv, lol.

There is a decent amount of anime on Netflix, but I prefer to watch on crunchyroll. But what is on there I like The Seven Deadly Sins, Sword Art Online, Kill la Kill, Ouran High School Host Club (a classic), and others. But it depends on your taste. There is also a live adaptation of Death Note on there. I'm half way through it now. It's ok but I much prefer the anime than the live action.

I watch anime on stable bases, every week and with original dubs. Otherwise it just wouldn't be right. And then there is manga. Have to survive with the english translations until I am fluent enough in Japanese.

Action, adventure and fantasy is a good start. Nothing really gory or horror packet.

I always have to read English manga too....but there isn't anything wrong with it...just have to wait, a sometimes uncomfortable amount of time, until someone translates new releases.

Dubs for me are ok but for some reason English actors' voices annoy me haha. I have to watch subtitled first before I watch dubs. I feel like English speakers don't have the same cute genuine voices in a lot of the anime I watch. Like the young boy and girl characters' voices in Japanese are higher pitched, but English actors are adults with lower tones and make a 12yo sound like a 20yo.

I like ao no exorcist too. Im kinda overwhelmed by titan and one punch because they have so many episodes/book. I didnt start from the beginning and it would take for ever to binge watch. Id probably like them though. Watching boku no hero too. Izuku keeps getting stronger and stronger but he makes me impatient. I need to see One For All from him!

And read more yaoi! you need it in your life...

I feel the same way, I want to see one for all from him too! One punch man is really funny though, I recommend it. And about yaoi, I had bought the manga ten count a while ago and I really liked that one. I don't have much experience yet with other yaoi manga, but I might read some more :)

@Lisette you should check out Kiss Him, Not Me. It's a super cute manga that was given an anime earlier this year. It isn't really a yaoi but its about a fangirl that loves shipping boys. The funny thing is that all the boys she ships seek her out.

My favorites are those that try to have a profound emotional impact.  Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis.  I just watched Jin-Roh, the Wolf Brigade.  It fell short in hitting me with those feels but it was still pretty decent.

I was same at first on not being fond of manga but after reading a view I got hooked on it. Some times the manga is actually better than the show. I suggest is to find the genre you like and try a few from it

Seems a good place to ask... How are the seasons structured in psychopass because I’m having a hard time finding a good answer? I watched the first 22 episodes. Is there a season 2? Or do you have to watch an extension to season 1 first? I’m unsure.

Also kissanime.ru is a great site to watch almost any anime free, btw.

Watched Chio's School Road, Asobi Asobase and Cells at Work, three top-notch comedy series last season. One of the characters in the former series seems to have been raised a nudist but has a bit of an exhibitionist streak.

Nothing interests me this season. Hoping for something better next season.

I'm surprised that I noticed that A) this is the only mention of Death Note yet and B) your reaction to the Netflix movie isn't as toxic as most are. While I agree with you in that I see the anime as the better, I also believe that the movie had a purpose to serve and both the studio and director Adam Wingard saw the potential in using as much of the original DNA from the source as possible while still putting their own spin on it so it can stand on its own. From what I can tell, even if it was actually genuinely awful, it may still be the first western live-action movie based on an anime to actually put in a genuine effort to achieve said goals.

I found a new favorite ongoing anime in Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken - it is about a 37- year old japanese salaryman who dies and is reborn into a fantasy world as a slime, the weakest possible monster, and the story starts from there. There has been 4 episodes released so far.

It's a decent light novel and a pretty well-done manga series, I don't think they can botch it seeing how safe the story is. I'd follow it, but I'm burned out from these reincarnation power fantasy trend in Japan.

As do I. The animation and everything is top-notch, but halfway through the series, I've kinda dropped it and never got back into it.

Right now, I'm following Dororo. It's one of my favourite Tezuka works alongside Phoenix and Buddha, so I'm thrilled to have a reimagined narrative and updated graphics.

Oh definitely. I love the fusion of traditional Japanese instrumentation and composition to modern sounds.

I'm glad for all the changes they made to the original story and am hoping that the coherent screenplay continues for the rest of the 2 cours.

I'm more of a romance/slice-of-life/shoujo reader when it comes to manga.
As for anime, I just follow whatever's new coming out on the season... that means I'm watching a lot of fighting anime recently, because of SAO, JoJo and Tate no Yuusha coming out.
Unfortunately not much romance this season >.>

N574L8Y897D
I'm watching a lot this season too. I'm watching Jojo and shield hero myself, and also kaguya Sama, reincarnated as a slime, mob psycho, and a lot more.

Oh yeah! The slime anime is surprisingly fun. I thought the plot was a bit of a mess at first, but it's so enjoyable in the end lol
For me slime was always enjoyable, even at the beginning. I found the thing with the tsundere dragon very amusing
It was fun, indeed. I'm just not a big fan of Isekai, so me liking it was a surprise.
That's understandable, but if you're not a fan of isekai, how do you feel about watching SAO, which I always assumed was one of the more disliked isekais

Oh, nice thread.
Feel free to talk to me about weeb stuff >.>

Maybe it's because it was the first anime I watched, tbh. Or maybe because of the being trapped in the VRMMO thing, and not being about a lucky guy who died and went to another world.

I've liked anime for the past 2 years, after I started watching death note. Currently I'm watching overlord

Death Note great anime and manga. On Overlord I just read the manga not the anime

So being completely honest here I am mostly shonen trash. My top five favorite anime basically go like this
5)Dragonball-DB Super
4)Boku no Hero Academia
3)HunterXHunter
2)Trigun
1)Spice and Wolf
Yeah my favorite is a bit of an outlier not sure what happened there.

Surprisingly no Fairy Tail despite the avatar.

@carbon @Mettis I'm actually not that big a fan of Fairy Tail surprisingly enough. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed what I watched (I left off I think not too long after Wendy joined [I only remember that as far as the soft canon timeline I'm at the phoenix priestess movie])but I don't think I'll be finishing it. On that note I picked Gray as my avatar since he was the closest thing to a Nudist character that I like.

I thought that was the case. FT had a pretty good start, but I think with any long-running series, people get tired of it.

I mean I still like the Dragon ball franchise after all this time but FT has some basic underlieing issues (samey character designs and plotlines mainly)that only get worse as the series continues. Which is sad cause if it improved even a little I think it could really be something great.
