Title: Art modeling
Post by: Bastian.therock on January 27, 2019, 10:33:47 pm
So I have been an art model for over 5 years. It combines my 2 passions rather well and I get paid for it. I was wondering if other people have tried it as well?

If you are interested in it definitely contact your local art school. Most schools need models so you will be doing them a huge favor.
It’s also super fun to see all the drawing they made based on your poses!

I did it for another college's art department while I was in college. It was a good experience, but man was my back sore after those sessions. Staying still is hard work! I haven't done it since graduating, but if someone asked me to I'd do it again.

That is very true. People do underestimate the sitting still part. Definitely because the artist prefer dynamic poses. So your muscles can be under tension for a while or other parts just went to sleep.
With practige you learn which positions work well for you.
You should model more!

@Bastian.therock  The avatar that you put on your profile is a drawing made from your artistic poses?

I wish. No this is a selfportrait by Schiele. One of my favourite artists. I wish someone drew me like that!!

My husband is interested in being a nude art model. Any advice on how to find gigs?

Just email some of your local art school. Most of them are low on models so I’m sure they would love to have him!

Closest I've ever gotten to art modelling was a casual nude sketching session last year. Other than that, I've hosted a figure drawing workshop, although I've hired a professional art model.

I have done this a few times I used to do it almost weekly  :cheesy: some of the poses are quite tough on the body

Who would have known that any position, if you hold it for an extended amount of time, would be so stressful?

@Athena Tran
I'm gonna tag @Athena Tran to this thread because she asked about art modeling in another thread a while ago. Could be helpful!

I’ve only seen this in movies and tv but I think it looks like a lot of fun! But I don’t think I can do it since I’m only 15?

Legally you should be able to, but must art schools would probably not allow a 15 year old to model bc it might come of as wrong

I can only speak of this from the other side of the easel. I have been working with models since college. I have had an art studio and have worked with many models. Some are good, some, not so much. Best ones I have worked with were dancers who were quite tone and were able to stay quite still for 20-40min at a time. One or two models have let me be nude as well. I have asked first and we have discussed nudism.

I did try it but not as a pro and only for short sketches. My local nudist club has an artist who tried putting in drawing sessions and posed for us (or me mainly as it was usually just two of us) now snd then we’d switch places.

Here's one of the times I've been a nude art model. Though I could only find the censored version now, sorry about that.

A couple of attempts at drawing I did. I’ll try to find one of the sketches he did of me.

Finally found one of the sketches someone did of me, possibly the only one I have a picture of. Turned up in a folder I was randomly looking through where nothing is in order. Thought about posting it in the gallery but since im not identifiable in it... Anyway as promised here it is #couchpotato
