Hey y’all! Does anybody here garden? I recently planted some things, and they are looking beautiful! Does anybody else do this?
-
i was actually gonna try it while we were stuck at home, as part of my "trying to get out of the house" thing but cant go and get stuff to do it now!
-
I have the tendency to see if I can grow things from seeds taken from store bought fruits. Now I have paprika-sprouts and also lemon sprouts that are slowly turning into little trees. Also, I have a small round dinner table that I haven't been using for ... years ... since it is the sunniest place to keep my houseplants.
I also do this at my parents place, where they have a garden. There are some cherries growing, and also some plums.
-
We have a small greenhouse, normal dad takes care of it but he is working out of town. My brother and I planted some seedlings the other day sp now its wait and see
-
Haha we have a greenhouse but dad was actually thinking about taking it down cos he never uses it lol. I've convinced him to let me try first... Maybe.. lok
-
Not a gardener at all and have nothing to teach anyone - but I sometimes enjoy landscaping and the process of selecting the right plants for the specific environment I want them to go in. The next thing I want to try is growing my own crop.
Ironically, this would mean a tremendous amount of work in the back-lawn to make it happen. But hey, at least theres plenty of time to get it done now. :D
-
I grow a few things out back. A few veggies here and there. This year I'm gonna try strawberries (just planted weekend before last) so we'll see what happens there. Not expecting much there as it can get pretty hot around here.
Right now I have a few Sunflowers as well that seem to be really enjoying the sun. It's always fun to see which way they'll turn around.
I don't really plant any flowers though. Although, if I could get monkey flowers to grow, I probably would do those. :p
-
Whutsa monkey flower?
-
i have a couple of plants in the apartment (no garden :( )
how about posting a pic of what you planted?
-
I do a garden every year. Tomatoes, and squash are my go to crops. I've grown tobacco in the past though. This year I'm gonna try and grow some bradford watermelons and a medical marijuana patch for my dad.
-
Yeah I’ve done a little bit dada obesssed with the garden so I’ve planted and done stuff before
-

What do you plan on planting?
-
Tbh I'm torn, but I remember when I used to go in my grandads greenhouse and he grew tomatoes and the smell was amazing, and I can remember how fat and juicy they were when I put them in my mouth fresh, so I might go tomatoes. Plus I can do them from seed so if it works it'll be start to finish

I dabble, I'm charged with mowing the lawn and trimming the shrubs. My mom does the flower beds. I have never done it but im considering a vegetable garden of sorts. @NakedAndFree

I planted some strawberries already and started tomatoes inside to plant outside when they are big enough
-
I garden all the time, I used to work as a gardener professionally

You don't need a degree in hortology, or something, to be a garderer?
-
No, I don't have a garden and, frankly, I don't have a green thumb. :embarrassed:
However if I had a garden that is not overlooked I would take advantage of it to be naked. :cheesy:

Nope, apparently not, I worked in a couple of indoor gardens and I had no prior experience. Just had training for a few weeks and then I got the keyes to a van and a schedule. It was great, and I was surprisingly good at it. I mean I have dealt with plants before and grown alot of vegetables. But I've never dealt with exotic plants before. Went great, biggest hurrdke was the hectic traffic in Central stockholm in a big van after only having a driver's license for a year.

Started germinating my cucumbers and beans today ????????

World Naked Gardening Day is coming up next month. Woot!
-
Spent most of the day yesterday and part of today planting with my family. My mom ordered a bunch of flowers and shrubs that were delivered Friday. We also started a bunch of seeds yesterday.

As a child/teenager I had an ever expanding vege/fruit garden, but as a working adult I find I don't have the time to tend one properly. Now I just have various plants that mostly take care of themselves. Such as banana trees and sugar cane.

Still looks great and more than I accomplished. I did try tomatoes a few years and some potatoes but gardens require a lot of work attention and knowledge. Do you get edible bananas off those trees?

For the last 4 years, I have gotten a hundred plus bananas every June. They are smaller than traditional store-bought ones, but they are denser. In grams, it only takes about 1.5 to 2 of my tiny bananas to outweigh a store-bought one. When they first turn yellow they are OK to eat, but if you wait another day or two and get some black spots on the skin, then the flavor is incredible, and none of those dark spots are on the banana. So they don't look as pretty as the store-bought ones, but inside they are incredible...I feel like there is a moral lesson there.
This year I have 3 trees growing bananas...I have no idea what I am going to do with that many. I can only eat so much Banana: bread, ice cream, pudding, and straight-up bananas.
It took many years to find the right spot around my house for the bananas, but on the 3rd or 4th replanting they took off. Now they are taller than my house and entirely self-sufficient.

I wish I could sample some. I usually prefer bananas yellow and with dome black spots on them but if they’re still green or are too black I don’t like them but I don’t throw away black bananas. If I have forgotten about them and they go too ripe I let them blacken further and use them to bake banana loaf. As it happens I have one in the oven now.

@Rob N thats really cool!

Thanks, there are a couple of benefits to living in this swelteringly hot and humid tropical environment. Beach, sugar cane, and all the free bananas you could eat for a couple of weeks in June.

I’ve had to take my lemon trees inside because of the colder weather, can wait to see how much they grow once it’s warm again.
