Title: NFL Football
Post by: gamez on July 09, 2009, 07:03:56 pm
So, any watchers of this fine sport besides me? I personally am looking forward to another season of my Oakland Raiders setting another example of total mediocrity. Oh well, I guess we're still better than the Lions.

Sure the Chargers have an 11 game win streak against my Raiders, but my team still has more overall wins in the rivalry :-p.

Speaking of rivalries, my new boss is a die hard (somewhat psychotic) Chiefs fan.

Not a lot of NFL fans here, eh? Sad to say, I think my Raiders are probably the worst team in the NFL right now, with the possible exception of the Rams. Everyone at work laughed at me when I said the Bengals were going to surprise people, well now who's laughing?

I'm a Patriots fan but a HUGE fan of Peyton Manning and Bret Farve. The Vikings are 6-0 but I just don't like their team nor the Colts, I just like their Quarterbacks.

Did you put any money down on them?  My friend put $100 down on the Bengals at 40:1, who would have guessed that has the potential to pay off.

I didn't bet this weekend, the spreads were so wide it was tough to figure out.

i dont do spreads, i bet on Accumulators.............i put a dollar on 1 game, and if it wins it goes onto the 2nd, and the 3rd and so on........but 1 loss ruins it, and that 1 loss this week was the Giants, closest ive ever come to winning big, 10euro bet would have won me about 9k on a 10 game accumulator  :879

ah well, you dont miss what you dont have lol

This is the first year that I've watched American Football. It happens to be on telly most days at the time I'm at the gym and have begun watching it there. Previously I've always found it to be slow, boring and repetitive, but after watching a bit this year I have grown more tolerant. It is nice to be open minded.

I have chosen to be a Green Bay fan - I'm not entirely sure why. It may be because I had the EA game on PS1 years ago and the Packers were by far the strongest team with a good QB, HB and WRs.

Anyway, moral to the story is its been fun having a new sporting interest.

Good point!

I may be American, but it also took awhile for this sport to get my attention. I've found that NFL football is rather repetitive but the fun seems to come from picking a team and watching how they do. The shorter seasons also help keep your attention as apposed to several other sports which can feel like they drag on a little too long.

Ouch the bears have probably had about as bad a year as a team could have.  Played well below their expectations.

the Colts are not lucky, they are good.....while Peyton is on the field teams tend to throw more and scramble for points knowing that Manning can score pretty much at will this year. Garrard was overthrowing his recievers all 4th quarter trying to build a lead, Bill Belichick went for it on 4th down deep in his own territory knowing that if they punted Manning would drive down the field and win anyway

the Colts are good, you can win a couple of games out of luck, but 14-0 is skill, not luck, no-one can luck their way to 14-0

Colts = the best team in the NFL, and that hurts being a Giants fan

I've just looked up the Play-Off Standings and things don't look good for the Eagles :(. We're in the 3rd seed for the NFC Wild Cards and we'd play the Cowboys, which'll be a very tough match. And if we win that, we'd play the Saints :S

- The Colts lose for the first time this season, as a result of putting out there B team
- The Saints lost to the Bucs!!!!
- Philidelphia pipped it at the last to beat Denver in a great game. This the. throws the AFC Wildcard spots wide open !
- The Bengals clinched their division
- 2 40 point games = Green Bay 48-10 Seattle and Carolina 44-9 (Im not exactly sure those are the scores)

So what is everyone's predictions for this round?

Ravens>Colts (The Colts may be a better team statwise, but I think they're going to choke)

Jets>Chargers (Same as above, the Chargers haven't proven themselves to be able to go all the way)

Vikings>Cowboys (Dome+Favre=victory)

Saints>Cardinals (Whoever plays defense will win this one, I pick the Saints)

FYI, looks like the NFL is making a trip to London next season staring two of my least favorite teams, the Niners and the Broncos.

Colts over Ravens - D is too old and secondary too beat up to handle Manning

Chargers over Jets - Recievers all 6-4+, Rivers playing amazingly, D has improved...will be close due to the Jets running game and D, but the Chargers have too much class

Vikings over Cowboys - 1 thing will decide this, Dallas running game vs Vikings run D, and i think the Vikings will contain them

Saints over Cards - Saints running game will be back, it will be a shootout like Cards v Green Bay, LOTS of points, Saints by 1 FG in overtime

Super Bowl Virgins vs two time winners. Despite the Colts IMO having a bigger advantage I still think the Saints can win it if they play the correct defense. They need to worry more about grounding Manning than putting their own points on the board,

FYI, looks like the NFL is making a trip to London next season staring two of my least favorite teams, the Niners and the Broncos.
I know. I was dissapointed when I heard as my and my Dad have gone the last 2 years, and there has at least been 1 good team there. With this move they're lookin to please all the 30-50 year olds who grew up in the glory days of the 49ers and the Broncos.

But there was some hope as there was set to be another match, and the Eagles were one of the Top Favourites to be the Home Team so I was really excited to find out the teams for the 2nd match. But the NFL dissapoints me and many other UK fans by announcing there is no 2nd match, have fun with 2 of the most unseen teams of the decade :0988 There have even been loads of complaints over the 2 teams picked on the BFL website. So I've decided to skip it this year :( No reason to pay a lot of money to not enjoy it :(

weird. I never recall that.

Yep it was an American NFL pre-season game between the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos. Here's a link to a Sports Illustrated article on it...

So now that we are just a few days away from the Super bowl, who is going to win?

I'll side with the Colts.

No one has anything to say about the game? That awesome onside kick to start the second half? Peyton's interception? Feelings seem to be mixed on the whole thing but I personally enjoyed it. It wasn't the offensive spectacular people were wanting but instead was just a plain old good football game and showed how taking some risks can help you win in the end.

For once It's nice to hear more people talking about the game and not the commercials or half time show.
