Title: Cold Shower "Challenge"
Post by: Limabean on October 02, 2016, 03:10:12 pm
Take a freezing cold shower for 5 minutes every morning for 30 days? Who wants to try it with me?
There are some health benefits to it which you can see below.

I do this all the time outdoors.  I don't have an outdoor shower but I use a garden hose.  Even in winter, which isn't as bad as people think.  If I let the water run for a bit, its alot warmer than the outside air.  Ive done this and then had steam coming off of me, which is definitely and interesting experience.

I actually had been taken cold showers regularly for the last two weeks. I had been swimming in the morning at a public pool and the showers there aren't heated, so I just got used to it. Even at home, I would turn it to cold, which my husband thought was psychotic. Anyway, I got sick this weekend, so warm showers feel really nice right now but I might go back to cold ^_^

I do, but after sport, because I couldn't stand a warm shower after all that sweating. However, to claim that are health benefits is not very wise. I read the article and there were no references made to any specific study showing health benefits; just some random MD saying he thinks there might be, based almost on just intuition.

Yeah, I know that I feel refreshed and energized after a cold shower and my skin feels nicer, but I wouldn't extrapolate my anecdotal experience to say that everyone will have the same experience. It'd be cool to see some solid research on the topic.

At the same time, for most people it wouldn't hurt to try, plus it's good for the environment since it's less energy being used to heat water.

Only if I can still shave in it.

Actually, cold water is better for shaving because it keeps the blade cold and sharper. Warm water causes the blade to expand, thus making it duller.

I'd love to see videos of people doing this. I hate cold showers. The only time I like it is when I am sweating up in a sauna and want to cool off. Then a BRIEF cold shower or a sip in a frozen lake is refreshing.

Dude, you have got to try having the cold shower or dip and then going straight back into the sauna. It feels AMAZING.

There was a gym I went to once. They have a cold dip, it's this ice cold, in ground tub... and it's right next to the hot tub. They're both inside of the locker room so you can actually go in naked. Let me tell you, that was an experience! I would go in the cold dip for like two minutes and then right into the hot tub. It was really nice!

I take a lot of cold showers. I tend to not like to pay the guy that delivers the propane out to here.

I wish my gym had that! I weight lift(gained 20 lbs since my avatar pic) and 6 minute cold baths help recover and boost muscle growth. Maybe they will add one? :D

You can always petition them to get one.
