Title: Blackadder
Post by: cc71 on July 10, 2018, 08:35:12 am
Any Blackadder fans here?

Arguably the best thing Ben Elton and Rowan Atkinson ever did, although the Young Ones supremo wasn't involved with the 1st series in which The Black Adder was a blithering buffoon who let his friends Baldrick and Percy make the best decisions for him.  By the 2nd series, Elton came on board alongside Richard Curtis and turned Blackadder into a very cunning, charming, deceptive and witty regal aid with Baldrick as the fool and Lord Percy as a childish assistant to the Queen, played with a wry ruthlessness by Miranda Richardson.  Fry and Laurie appeared in this and the latter would have a regular role in Blackadder The Third as the foppish Prince Regent.  That too was a hit with more amusing scripts from Elton.  Blackadder Goes Forth was also funny and was given a poignant touch by the fact it was set during World War One.  A fine way to end another classic comedy series.

The finale of Blackadder Goes Forth is quite possibly the finest way to end a TV series ever.

Blackadder the Third, set in the Regency era was the only series where Blackadder himself did not die at the end, although with the WW1 era Blackadder Goes Forth, he might have survived also.

My personal favorite was the second series set in Elizabethan England, Miranda Richardson playing the murderous queen was a hoot.

Blackadder's Christmas Carol was a good one too.
