I found out @AiKayBee4orty8 is also into jpop! So I thought I'd start a thread about it! =) Share and discuss Japanese music! Modern stuff, and classic stuff too! (There's some Japanese 50s music I like, too)
Here are two songs by Yuko Ogura that I like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeJgBuolxvQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55VPMpcgcvk
And here's a song by Ai Shinozaki!

An interesting fact: both Yuko Ogura and Ai Shinozaki are really cute gravure models (like, swimsuit and cute stuff models).

When I was a teen I loved utada hikaru. I also really like this group called Rin'

Heeee, I knew @AiKayBee4orty8 would have a ton to add!! =D And I'm glad you're okay with enjoying Japanese stuff again! I love a lot of foreign things, but a ton of my favorite things come from Japan, like ramune fizzy candy and anime girls and kigurumis and Rina Koike and stuffed animal meat on a bone!
It seems like a lot of female jpop artists get their start as gravure models!
I like some guys, too! Like Gackt, I kind of like in an ironic way, cause it's pretty silly XD But also he does have an interesting voice!

And Miyavi:

Also I like Ayumi Hamasaki, especially the Ferry Corsten mix of her album:

I haven't really delved into the J-Pop scene, to which I'm a little ashamed about. The closest thing is probably Sound Horizon. Their album -- Elysion -- is still by far one of my favourite in my collection. A fantasy-storytelling set to neoclassical music, the premise is quirky but it's surprisingly good.

Other than that, I like songs by Yosui Inoue. Yume no Nakka e and Shonen Jidai are my absolute faves.

And finally, pretty much all the songs from Katamari franchise are great.

Can't see my links. I am bad at internet.
Apparently, you just need to copy the URL for YouTube, don't have to use the "share" link.

Not really Japanese per se, but the main female vocalist is Japanese and she sometimes sings in Japanese so I allow it.

This one is from NGE: 2.0, but the version in Nichijou, and Babymetal's cover are great on their own right. I think Susan Boyle also sung an English version as well.

Speaking of Nichijou, Hyadain no Joujou Yuujou is catchy.

Bakufu Slump's RUNNER, pretty old, but it's so damn catchy.

That video is clearly another case of "filth is in the mind of the beholder" (thanks to Tom Lehrer for that expression). SOD, the production company behind that video, specializes in adult video, i.e. softcore porn. In a country where visible genitalia are banned in explicitly sexual scenes, those naked girl groups may well be the raunchiest thing available. To us naturists, there is nothing inherently sexual about a bunch of girls rocking out in the nude, so it does not look pornographic in this context, but there is a reason that all people in this video are young, conventionally attractive and female.

My experience is fairly limited. Firstly, Utada Hikaru I know only from Kingdom Hearts, though how she came upon director Tetsuya Nomura or some other representative from Square or something like that to get approved and then record, I don't know. Second, the band Nightmare. I only know their song, "The World", from the first opening sequence of the anime phenomenon Death Note.

Not generally a big fan of Japanese music, but I am definitely a fan of Wagakki Band.

Was definitely not taken with them from the first song I heard from them (Doki Doki Morning), but they've grown on me in bits and pieces.

In my mind, Pizzicato Five was the band of the future. I think they were completely underrated and should be a pop supreme. Below is one of my favorite songs/videos. For any Futurama fans, they also did the song "Baby Love Child" that plays when during the sequence of Leela growing up with her parents watching her.

That second song brings back so many emotions from that scene. Futurama really does have a way to make you feel things.

I like most Japanese things, including their music, but I like most world music too.
