It certainly does look like a good movie, I'll most likely go see it. My religious believes probably play into this, but I don't really believe the whole 2012 thing. Sure the world will end someday, but conspiracies about the end of the world made from ancient cultures have come and gone and nothing has happened. I guess the reason people feel so strongly about this one is because of how accurate the mayan calanders was.

Interesting, from Roland Emmerich again.  He has some fixation on the end of the world it seems.  He also did "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow" as well.

As for the reality of such a thing I'll refer you to Penn & Teller:

Their new season is about to start and they even have an episode about that nutty 2012 doomsdate.  Personally I'm not a religious person so doomsdates based on extinct cultures carry about as much weight with me as "Jesus is going to return in my life time" & "Obama/Bush/Reagen/Ahmadinejad is the anti-christ" or "Y2K is going to be the end."

This film looks incredible. I first saw the trailer a few weeks ago. The CGI looks awesome, fairly solid cast and a cool, is not overused plot. To all intents and purposes, it should be a good film :)

I thought the Mayans said the world would end all at once???

Nothing about having time to save the species, etc, etc.

At least aliens aren't responsible this time.

I don't think the whole planet will be destroyed in 2012, but the infrastructure of the modern world that man has created could very well be.  The world that is based on greed, exclusivity, avarice, and violence will have to give way to something better.

And I reckon that a new order will also make life easier for naturists as people become more earth-centred and start living up to their own philosophies based on their experiences in life rather than old organised religious dogmas.

Books like "Future Shock" and "Celestine Prophecy" are also great futurist stories that I recommend others to read if they are interested in what could lie ahead for us.

I just saw a preview on the big screen. It makes Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow" (based on Art Bell's book) look like a minor disaster by comparison.

Gotta keep those CGI wizzes fully employed!

Yay! Billions of senseless deaths and massive destruction for the pure entertainment of masses again! :P

The scenario obviously fit on a toilet paper cut but the visual effects indeed look entertaining  :234567
