Is anyone following/interested in/watching/listening to the FIFA World Cup in Russia?
What are your thoughts on it so far? Which team/s are you going for?
Feel free to update this thread as the World Cup progresses :azn: However don't give spoilers for those who don't want to hear the scores right away
-
I'm backing the Socceroos (Australia)

Save a Blue, eat a kangaroo! :happy
-
Did anyone see the Spain vs Portugal game? Unbelievable!
Supporting England but expect it to be the typical disappointment!

I did not see it, but heard it was a pretty good game.
-
I’m watching but I’m surprised that US didn’t qualify this time. :/
Spain vs Portugal was a good one.
This website is good, it has a calendar to add to the iPhones calendar. https://fixtur.es/en/wedstrijden/fifa-2018-russia/ronde/1
Easier than googling all the time for times.
-
Yes, I'm like to watch all Fifa World Cup 2018 games.

@nudetotheworld The French team played badly for this first match. I give the Blues a score of 4.5/10 ...

I was a bit saddened with the Australian team's inability to recognise that they were playing a non-contact sport... I felt the French team played slightly better myself, but I guess different perspectives is good
-
Yeah it's interesting to watch. I was surprised how Iceland stood against Argentina and Mexico beating Germany.
Still sad that USA and Italy didn't quality
-
for sure im watching the world cup.
germany was a bit disappointing yesterday. i hope the get far but they have to improve a lot.
i would say france has a good chance to win the cup.
@prodigal_son spain vs cr7 was indeed an unbelievable match. and maybe england can get far, at least they will be more successful than in the last years.
-
Belgium is rocking today. The game would have been more exciting if it was closer.
-
The England game last night was torture! Hopefully not a sign of things to come. I felt like Tunisia stopped us playing and getting a rhythm with constant fouling and a desire to settle for an ill-gained draw.
-
Go Brazil ????????
-
I’m going to cheer for Mexico because US isn’t in the World Cup this time.
Russia is doing very well so far.
-
As a Korean, I want to root for South Korean team, but after watching their recent game vs. Sweden, I lost hope.
Also their football association is very corrupt and in denial.
I'm rooting for Iceland right now though. They are quite good, and did you know that the team members have different jobs? (their head coach is a part-time dentist!)
I personally think Portugal will win, given that their team is in excellent shape with Ronaldo in it.
-
Regarding corruption...
That makes me think about Russia considering that they get banned from the Olympics and something fishy could be going on with Russia in the WC. Haha, maybe nothing shady is going on.
-
funny match yesterday between croatia vs argentina. the argentine goalkeeper did something stupid which caused the 1:0 and then it was the beginning of dont cry for me argentina... croatia ripped them apart and argentina began playing dirty. someone sent me a text with the message he got off 3x by a good porn movie "petite argentine girl gets f...ed by 11 croatians" :laughing sorry if that offends you :love2
hoping today for a win for island and switzerland (of coarse)
-
Not really interested, but Mexico beat Germany
No one believes it!
(Im mexican by the way)

Right

I’m all Sweden all the way!

Mexico and Germany were good today. Germany needed to step up.
-
I am German ????????, but support Portugal ????????.

I do agree with @boris, now these days Germany as France have good options, but I would give my vote to Mexico or Portugal :)

What is everyone’s thoughts on VAR?
The penalty given to Iran was the worst decision I’ve ever see! That decision has changed the final table for Group B and therefore the next round of the competition.
-
The Spanish team won't be complaining after their stoppage time equaliser against Morocco last night which was initially disallowed by the ref was overturned by VAR.
-
Since the US team screwed themselves out, I am rooting for Mexico (my mother's heritage).

:like
I definitely want Mexico and to win.
-
I'm sad for the Germans team to have been eliminated and to leave this World Cup by the back door.
-
I would like to thank any South Koreans for their victory over Germany. Now Mexico advances thanks to them!
-
I'm Korean, and believe it or not, the last game with the Germans was glorious for everyone.
I didn't understand why Manuel Neuer decided to leave his net during the game though. I was so confused, and he was the biggest cause for that second goal by Son Heung-min.
Also, I'm glad that Koreans didn't get the second runner-up spot, given that they'd face Brazil for the following game (which would've inevitably been a done deal).

Neuer came forward because they were already losing with only a few minutes remaining. They may as well lose 10-0 as 1-0, it’s still a loss, but if they could equalise by having an extra attacking player they wouldn’t be eliminated.
-
Tomorrow, I hope that the Blues play better against Argentina and they will make us vibrate and dream to a World Cup quarterfinal..., not like the last game against Denmark very boring!!
-
Go Argentina!!!
-
Go Argentina!!!
Good bye Argentina!!! :azn:

Same with Portugal and Spain too.

True and good for us ... because we have the opportunity to have a second star and be world champion!! :happy
-
lol sorry but who is left in the World Cup? haven't been able to follow it as much as I would like to
-
lol sorry but who is left in the World Cup? haven't been able to follow it as much as I would like to
Eh... haha. I wanted Mexico to win, Japan Second but they’re both gone. I’ll just watch the rest anyway.
-
Go Brazil!!
-
I honestly don't know who to root for at this point so I might give my game by game predictions(?) lol
Brazil vs Belgium... I think Brazil might have the upper hand with Neymar but I really can't count out how well Belgium has been playing.
Uruguay vs France... Uruguay has been absolutely killing it this World Cup and they have a great chance of winning but I think this one could be a close one and end in kicks.
I'll update on the other two games together but this is my prediction from halfway paying attention so please correct me if I'm wrong about anything here.
-
Maybe Neymar can roll over 10x more to be more dramatic in this game? Haha
-
haha maybe, but I just feel that way about most soccer players. They could go into acting once their soccer careers are over.
-
Is that mostly what I'm missing with not watching these games? a lot of flops
-
haha maybe, but I just feel that way about most soccer players. They could go into acting once their soccer careers are over.
Same... they’re all pretty dramatic but Neymar is ridiculous. Oh well, Brazil is gone, we won’t have to see him whining for a bit. Haha
-
true and I saw his flop against Mexico and yeah it was absolutely ridiculous. I think when the flops are that bad, they should get a yellow card to discipline them not to act worse than children when trying to get a foul called.
-
Gogogo France !
-
Go Sweden!
-
Russia and Croatia are tied and I’d like to see Croatia win.
-
how about that Croatia win? what a game!
-
Congratulation to croatia
-
did anyone notice all 1/4 finals between one team with 6 letters and the other team with 7 and all teams with 7 letters won. ????
-
Congratulation to croatia
:like
They did very well so far.
-
Call it an intuition or a gut feeling, I can already visualise
England V Belguim Final (both teams from Group G)
with England getting the better of the Red Devils on Sunday.
-
I could see that too but don't count out France now, they are a pretty good team and Croatia seems to have become the new Cinderella underdog team.
-
Croatia is ranked Number 20 in global rankings - do not see them going any further.
In fact, Croatia has somehow hung in there by the skin of their teeth - lucky to win last 2 games via penalty shootouts.
-

I like your gut!
-
FRANCEEEEE
-
Small countries like Belgium and Croatia clearly LACK the Big Match Temperament in spite of some good players.
Hence,
1. England V France Finale on Sunday
2. Belgium V Croatia 3rd place game on Saturday
-
they may be ranked 20th globally but they have made it this far and have beat the odds against them even if they won by penalties shoot out, as athletes have always no matter the win, the win is still a win
-
In spite of being Ranked so LOW, reaching the SF has been nothing short of a MIRACLE for them. England will finally end the Croatian dream run today...
Croatia is the one of the 3 biggest Underdogs to ever reach the Semis:
Croatia in 2018
Turkey in 2002
Bulgaria in 1994
I do NOT see Croatia advancing any further.
-
If England wins the World Cup, it'll be a diplomatic nightmare for the players who have to shake hands with Putin
Harry Kane and the boys are resolutely ignoring all that novichok business. Fine, but what happens when they have to get all chummy with this aggressive near-dictator? Can they snub him?
An interesting read:

England has an Excellent head-to-head record V Croatia
June 21, 2004 – ENGLAND WON 4-2 (Euro 2004)
October 11, 2006 – ENGLAND LOST 0-2 (Euro 2008 qualifying)
November 21, 2007 – ENGLAND LOST 2-3 (Euro 2008 qualifying)
September 10, 2008 – ENGLAND WON 4-1 (World Cup 2010 qualifying)
September 9, 2009 – ENGLAND WON 5-1 (World Cup 2010 qualifying)
July 11, 2018 - ENGLAND WON X-Y (World Cup 2018)
-
Here we go Croatia vs France!
-
Sorry to all the England fans who claimed victory way too early lol
-
This will definitely be one of the more interesting World Cup Finals regardless of who wins with Croatia making it all the way
-
Belgium labelled France as "Anti-Football" though their main strikers like Lukaku are now regarded as Extinct Volcanoes. They said that it would have been better to lose against a team like Brazil rather than lose against French footballers.
-
The French are getting for ONE BIG WEEKEND PARTY
1. France Day or Bastille Day Celebrations on Saturday July 14
2. WC Final and Celebrations on Sunday July 15
-
I wouldn't be so quick to say and for the celebrations though, Croatia can always win. They had it this far after all.
-
Tomorrow we will be at least 2nd or World Champion for the second time!!
-
Tomorrow we will be at least 2nd or World Champion for the second time!!
Croatia is ranked as low as 20 in World Ratings. They have been lucky so far and maybe their luck runs out today. Such a low ranked team winning is unheard of...
Anyways, the French surely know what to drink and how to party: there were huge Celebrations in Paris today for the equivalent of their biggest day in the calendar.
Tomorrow, the Celebrations will continue with the French team enjoying:
1. Wine with Deschamps at Half-time
2. Champagne with Macron at Full-time
3. Vodka with Putin during the FIFA After-party
Coincidentally, Deschamps (the current French Manager) was the ONE who captained France to their 1998 World Cup Victory as well as Euro 2000 Victory. Today is his another date with World Cup destiny.
During their first WC in 1998, it was France who kicked out Croatia during the Semi-Final.
Croatia has NEVER defeated France in any of their previous encounters with France Win record 50%, Draw Record 50% and Lose record as 0%
As they say, HISTORY Repeats itself...

Hugo Lloris is the favorite for BOTH: to lift the 2018 Cup in few hours from now as well as the Golden Glove.
Belgium star Toby Alderweireld has hailed Tottenham pal Hugo Lloris as the best keeper at the World Cup. And he’s warned Croatia they won’t find France as easy as England in today’s showpiece final. “France are very solid at the back, it’s hard to break them down"
Alderweireld is convinced Luka Modric and Co will come up against an Iron Curtain in Lloris in Moscow.
On Sunday French football fans will flock to the city's bars as well as the giant screen that will be erected at the Champs de Mars under the Eiffel Tower in order to watch the final of the World Cup between Les Bleus and Croatia. The fanzone is expected to accommodate up to 90,000 people.
