I had a good friend of mine get married and I decided to shoot some of the day on Super8 reversal film. I found some old stock and a camera and shot 2 reels. I can't wait till it's developed and see what the footage looks like.
With technology moving so fast it's amazing how old your cell phone can look in a couple years.
So my question is: What is the latest old technology you have used? Did you happen to pull out a old walkman recently, original nintendo or do you still have one of those clocks that flips the numbers over.
-
I still have and use my walkman to listen to tapes, I have a working record player and I do play the original NES system from time to time.
-
I still use incandescent lamps almost every day. But many people do. Otherwise, I actually try to avoid many old forms of technology that are still in common use. I avoid paper (it is a hassle to digitize and pictures are not an efficient text storage), I avoid clocks with parts more mechanical than a speaker or a button (clockworks and mechanical hands produce noise I do not like) etc. .
I did use an i486-based laptop in the Pentium 4 age if that counts, though. Fun times with a friend from school and his Commodore 128, it was always great retro computing fun.
-
The PS2 seems pretty old now. I still play that as my xbox 360 is broken
-
I ride a lugged steel frame road bike with "suicide shifters" as my primary bike
-
I listen to vinyl records almost every day.

I've just come back from a week hiking naked around the Austrian alps carrying round several kilograms of medium format film camera. The body is dated 1975, a year younger than I am. I had a certain sense of self-satisfaction when one member of our party complained that his camera battery had died. My camera is completely mechanical and I judge the exposure in my head.
We actually have a digital SLR but I let Stuart use that. I prefer the Hasselblad. I find it more satisfying to use.
-
That's cool. I miss the old film type cameras. I always took the best pictures with an old Pentax. But unfortunately all of the developers around here closed a while ago. So now it's digital or nothing.

Nice, I really want to get into med format photography. What kind do you have? Hasselblad, Rolli?
-
I was recently playing my N64 with some friends(Mario Party, Super Mario 64). Although it may be old, it will forever be the best system.
-
I use a straight razor.

Screw the shitty toy razors people use these days.

Awesome - I couldn't judge exposure if my life depended on it.

It's a lot easier with the Hasselblad because you only need to set the exposure value. You can then turn the ring on the lens to decrease or increase aperture and shutter speed knowing that the photograph will have the same level of exposure. It's like the Aperture priority or shutter speed priority setting on an SLR.
Outside you judge the exposure value by looking at the shadows on the ground. Bright sunlight during the day with strong shadows gives you EV 15 (EV 16 for bright sand or snow). Soft shadows is EV 14. Bright cloudy without shadows is EV 13. Dark shade or very cloudy is EV 12 and a sunset is EV 11. Post sunset would be EV 10 etc. If I am focusing on a relatively bright object such as a naked body then I will increase the the EV by half a stop).
I also bring a table of values printed on an A4 paper that includes all the different situations that I rarely come across in case I need it, such as round a campfire (EV 8) and change it according to what I want to focus on. I find this far easier than using the light meter, which I always bring with me but very rarely use. And when I do use it generally ignore it anyway.

My guitar tuner is well over 20 years old, absolutely nothing wrong with it, I use it all the time
-
I like books - as in actual paper things that you read.
-
My 15 year old car has a manual transmission and I just switched to a brand new single speed bike as my daily commuter.
-
I love the sound of my pocket watch. The ones which have to rewind for a days worth. I like how the small sound coming from the clock echoes through my room at night.

Those too. :azn:
-
I pulled out my old Gameboy Color recently. Lets face it, you can't get the same experience on a touchscreen emulator.
-
I have all of my dad's vinyl records . . . and the turntable needed to play them . . . used frequently
likewise his cassette tapes . . . and the tape deck component for the stereo system . . . used less often than the turntable
also his 35mm SLR camera and all the gear that goes with it . . . fun to use if you don't mind thinking . . . used infrequently because I'm not keen on photography of any kind
when I go hiking I always take a compass with me even though I also take a GPS unit . . . if the satellite constellation goes wonky the GPS is no good but the compass is good unless the Earth's magnetic field goes wonky . . . if the Earth's magnetic field goes wonky I'm sure I will have larger issues to concern me
I have a spring-driven pendulum-regulated clock in my bedroom because I like the sound of it . . . the heartbeat of time
my car is very new (2012) but I bought it with a manual transmission because I like them better
and I'm still using a PC that runs (Gasp!) XP
-
At this very moment, I'm playing my PS2.
-
The calculator I use at work, an HP-48G, was introduced in 1990. With RPN mode, a good equation library, and easy unit conversion the thing is just so useful.

Schools still request 80s technology sold at a premium for their calculators.

My old VCR. I have some 90's NBA games recorded, and lately I've been seeing the good old age of basketball, when Jordan was (and still is) the real king of Basketball. Shaq was THE most dominant center in the league, Kobe was just starting out, Penny Hardaway was considered the next Magic Johnson, and Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Ewing, Drexler were in pursuit if that Illusive NBA title. Nothing like the good old age of basketball... and of VCR's

Nintendo 64. Just played some Goldeneye on it yesterday.

Goldeneye is classic. Prox mines in Facility!

I've been on a ps2 spree for like months haha so I've been using that a lot
-
I still play my Super Nintendo every so often to revisit Megaman X, Super Mario World, Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, etc.
-
Let's run off ye ole' checklist...
* I still run Windows XP.
* I drive a Taurus that dates all the way back to 1993. Believe it or not, the vehicle only *just* crossed the 100k mile threshold.
* I still use a flip-phone.
* My professional sound-card and webcam are roughly 10 years old.
* One of my main hobbies is kicking back and listening to music on a (dedicated) stereo system.
* One of my audio components (the CD player) uses 40 year-old Russian Vacuum tubes.
* I still run, and will continue to run 'desktop' computers for as long as the components are made available.
-
I travelled by train, does that count?
-
I still use a VCR and a Palm Treo 680 and I have a computer that runs XP.
-
I use a computer at work that has PCI (before the common PCI express) and I have an NES hooked up to the TV.
-
Recently dabbled a bit with my old PS2

Goldeneye is classic. Prox mines in Facility!
One of my favorite games ever. And got to love the proximity mines lol. Multiplayer in that game is a blast.
-
Yeah I borrowed a projector from work and played some N64 on the wall at my place. Great way to play.

Old Technology? I just bought a 1974 dodge motorhome. It has a CB radio, cassette, and 8 track AM/FM radio. I took out the cassette player already, it was in the way of the folding part of the bunk over the cab.
I am thinking about finding some old 8 tracks to play on it while I work on the RV.
-
Nice!
:e4444
I bought a late '60s camper trailer for Burning Man last year.
No 8-track but it does have a hand-pump for the faucet. I'm thinking of rigging up a shower for it, putting a trapdoor in the floor for ice fishing and painting it in a psychedelic hippie theme just for the fun of it.
Probably will end up doing none of that due to time constraints but who knows...
-
Casette player in my car.. My headunit broke and I had to put in my old one. Only using the casette for the aux cable.
-
i know its not really that old, but i recently setup my old PS2 to play GTA Vice City.....its my favourite GTA game and the only one i cannot find for PS3
-
I just got a two-sided safety razor to go with some nice shaving creams that my girlfriend got me for Christmas.
-
Nintendo 64, Mario Cart and Perfect dark.
Nothing can beat these good classics.

Also have a radio from the early 50th, which I switch on from time to time...

My previous girlfriend's flat had radio from the 1930's at least I think it was since it only had 1YA,2YA,3YA,4YA and 1ZB,2ZB,3ZB,4ZB marked on the frequencies don't think it worked

I have an old school Nintendo I recently played. My brother in law collects vintage games and systems. He had 4 Nintendos and a bunch of duplicate games since many eBay sellers bundle everything together. My sister insisted that he get rid of at least some of that stuff so he gave one to me with a bunch of games. Thanks sis.

I've been playing on my generation 1 Xbox for 10 years, and I have intention of stopping. :323232

I am not a gamer but we had a Super Nintendo when I was a kid. It was in its box for years and I came across it while packing down. I tried to plug it in but it is clear it does not work now (the cables are all destroyed). Upon returning from my trip I might buy some cables and relive some childhood games --- like Donkey Kong Country or Super Mario Kart.
I've also got an older mobile phone but that is another story entirely. Long live the indestructible pocket brick!
-
I utilized the power of the wheel.
-
My wallet and keys(they are attached together) to let my naked self in

Super Mario Kart is a classic. Definitely get the cables if you get the chance.

I have a beautiful Hallicrafters tube radio from 1946 that operates on AM, shortwave, and two amateur radio bands. I love it! I've picked up a music station on AM from Munich with it before while using an antenna I designed and built. I'm quite proud of that!
-
Glad to see this topics still moving. At the moment I sit in the nude listening to some vinyl.
-
Vacuum tubes and vinyl... Mmmmmm...
-
Love a nice old tube radio! Theres just something about it you cant replace. I dont know if this counts but I have been playing with MIDI recently... 80s isnt that old is it?
-
we have an old record player and some old record albums

My parents have an old turntable with vinyl records that always works.

Playing Super Nintendo games. Love 16 bit games! :cheesy: :2345

I need to hook mine back up. Minus one of the controllers no longer working after a while and needing a replacement, my SNES works as good as the day I got it. Some of the games don't look all that great on an LCD screen, but I still have two CRTs.

My two-year-old computer...
-
Nintendo 64.
Wish I could say the same. Sold mine because I was tight on cash. Dumbest idea ever.
-
I used a calculator for the first time in a while. My phone was upstairs and I couldn't get bothered going to get it...
And a week or so ago I had to mail something, in an envelope, with a stamp! I wasn't allowed to scan/email. I cannot remember the last time I bought a stamp...

Its technically not a technology but I am learning BASIC programming. It was originally designed in 1964.
