Title: Who likes writing?
Post by: Dreamwalk on December 16, 2010, 02:28:46 am
It doesn't matter what it is, I wanna know who likes to write! :D

Also, what types of writing do you like?

I do like! For me is like making a puzzle of words for composing something that sounds good. Now I'm not writing much, though. Very few people around me have read something. Sometimes I have used it like a present or for a special moment... it's not much about the quality but how much the heart you put on it.

I get into a writing streak from time to time - mainly song writing, but I have attempted a novel before now (there's a post on here somewhere about it...)

That's awesome!

I've also attempted a novel.. it's been "put off" for now...it wasn't becoming what I wanted it to be.

I also write poetry. I see that there is a poetry contest of sorts.. I think I'll post one of mine in the next one :D

I write a decent bit. Poetry, attempting to do songs. I also have a knack at writing papers for college the night before they are due and get 90's on them.

Good for you Simon!  Keep working on that book.

One of my profs tells me "squeeze your brain harder and the book will eventually appear on the paper in front of you."  He's old-school and used a typewriter until lately.  I try to minimize my production of waste paper, a category into which most of my writing rightly fits.

I love to write! (as evidenced by my over abundant posts here)

I'm currently working on a non-fiction how to book, and a fiction book.

I have a naturist horror book that's now a year behind schedule. That's what happens when your entire third act is a mistake and you decide half way through to change the basic nature of the characters.

I love writing. Last year I discovered poetry in a whole new light and began using it more and more to let out feelings and get things off my chest. I also joined a band last year and started writing some songs with another band member.

The non-fiction book is about disaster preparedness at the family and personal level.

The fiction book that I usually work on (yeah, got more than one going) is sci-fi fantasy and it just keeps growing and growing  :879

I've got a few of those type of books. One I started reading recently but got distracted from was "When all hell breaks loose" by Cody Lundin. I place a lot of worth on having a library of information at my disposal for when I need it.

One of my writing projects features a future where society has regressed to pre-industrial technologies when fossil fuels have run out. Society drastically changes - one of the things that changes is that old cultural norms are abandoned, and other adopted, including a general comfort level with nudity akin to that of ancient Greece. I just wrote this paragraph about a Princess who adopts a troubled but good hearted teenager to help her when she is far from home and in trouble:

Quote
Smithy watched as the Princess stood on the aft rail of the still moving ship. As she held her hands above her head ready to dive in, he felt able for the first time to just stare at her naked body. He was in awe of her amazing physique, with her toned muscles and trim waist, but there was more to her than just simple beauty. He felt she held herself with all the grace and strength befitting a Princess, and more. For the first time he realised what she had said about shedding clothes to reveal your soul. Clothed, she was merely a beautiful and amazing woman, but standing nude atop the rail she seemed possessed with the grace of a Goddess. He watch as she dived, her perfect form plunging into the water with barely a splash and he felt himself utterly devoted to this woman and her position. From that moment, he knew he would die to protect her, if it ever came to that.

Did I catch the naturist mindset there do you think?

Over the last few years I've been writting about 30 - 40,000 words of a horror book. I set about it with the intent of writing the scariest tale I could (I don't find horror scary, just unpleasant if it's gory). The premise is that we fear most losing that which we rely upon.

I really spend a lot of time letting the readers to understand and empathise with the characters before I kill them off. I want the readers to know that they can't take it for granted that their favourite character will survive.

It's not a ghost but an invisible malevolent formless presence that can interact with the physical world but is not bound by it. It can see the branches of time as just another dimension.

It's not a ghost as such but an invisible malevolent formless presence that can interact with the physical world but is not bound by it, and can see the branches of time as just another dimension.

Sounds like an investment banker.

I had a crazy dream this week, involving horror, castles, balloons and twins. Then I decided to write it down. Since what I remember makes little sense, now I'm trying to fill the gaps, and transform it in a full story.

Me too!  :909

I am one of the few kids in my school that doesn't mind writing 6-10 page essays for Composition I, however I like to write at my own pace therefore can't stand being given one working week to write 6-10 pages.  I wrote several short stories in high school, last one I wrote was for a science fiction class. If not for the page limit (10 pages max) I think my story would have made a great novel (though I am sure I would have been sued due to some ridiculous copyright laws because my short story sounded a lot like the movie Pandorum, though I wrote my story a week before this movie was released  :56789 though I had never even heard of this movie when writing my story).

And I've changed the whole damn thing again. Same characters, but now its mutated into a zombie story (http://www.unsustainablefuture.com/forum/Smileys/SoLoSMiLeYS1/smiley-zombie46ni.gif)

Do you mean that some of the characters are zombies or that the story just refuses to die?    :56789

I couldn't make the idea I had work properly until I came up with a new take on zombies. The characters I've developed work just as well in this new concept.

I wrote this yesterday, thought about sharing with you:

Lilies
What is this life but bridges
what is this time but sand
mer-ci-less-ly running?
One wakes up early at eight
and at noon it's already October
with its yellowish trees saying loud:
memento... memento... memento.
Tempus fugit, says the clock
and each second's a blossom
wounded and bleeding so lively
its scar of infinite beauty,
its scar of eternal fleetingness...

Nice poem bluetrain. Like the way u personifiy time and nature as an unstoppable flow. I honestly cant say i LIKE to write but it is a valuable skill everyone should have. Sometime later in my life i hope to publish a book that details my lifes history from before i was born to the time i obtain adulthood(have responsibility of wife and children). It will also have a complete analogy of my philosphy and outlook on life, including my personal creed or laws by wich i live and will never break. Hope u all will read it some day.

Here is a song I wrote about my difficulties sleeping. The chorus has come from one of my favorite poems 'To Sleep' by William Wordsworth

Verse 1
We go to it with reluctance,
Yet we quit it with regret
Just wish my mind,
Would let go and forget
Its the death of each day
Yet I cant find a way
To close my eyes and enter a dream
Insomnia is a bitch it would seem

Chorus
Smooth fields, white sheets of water, and pure sky
I’ve thought of all by turns, and still I lie
Sleepless
Without sleep whats the point in morning
When the night is so long and boring
Sleepless

Verse 2
Sleep is perverse as human nature,
Sleep is pervers as legislature
So people who go to bed to sleep
Must count their beats or sheep,
And people who ought to arise from bed
Yawn and go back to sleep instead.

Chorus
Smooth fields, white sheets of water, and pure sky
I’ve thought of all by turns, and still I lie
Sleepless
Without sleep whats the point in morning
When the night is so long and boring
Sleepless

Bridge
O bed! O bed! delicious bed!
That heaven upon earth to the weary head.
Take me away to a land far away
Now its time for the death of the day
Bring me a dream, a nightmare or both
Let my head drift, glide and float

Chrous
Smooth fields, white sheets of water, and pure sky
I’ve thought of all by turns, and still I lie
Sleepless
Without sleep whats the point in morning
When the night is so long and boring
Sleepless

Outro
Insomnia is a gross feeder. It will nourish itself on any kind of thinking, including thinking about not thinking

Occasionally the muse descends upon me, and I'll scratch down a poem or a short story if there's something on my mind. I write to get something off my chest and onto paper, and be rid of it.

I have always wanted to write, but oftentimes when I get the muse to write, I barely have enough to write a scene or vignette, much less a short story

I enjoy writing and keep a daily journal. I also write a  blog about various things that I feel are of importance most often about political topics. I've tried my hand at writing fiction, but I have come to recognize that I am not a fiction writer. I am great at writing and editing.

Of course I write, mainly to fill in lonely nights in hotels watching movies in Hindi, or Indonesian or Malaya or German or....

Jenny dropped by unexpectedly – we had been going out for just a month and this was the first time she had just appeared at the door.

“I didn’t expect to see you this afternoon,” I said.  “Come on in, I can introduce you to my Mum.”

“I’d rather not, not to be rude or anything, but I was just flying by and I wanted to ask you a favour.”  Jenny gently bit her bottom lip and seemed to be looking over my shoulder rather than at my face.  “Can you borrow your Mum’s car tomorrow?”

“If I take her to work I’m pretty sure I can – why?”

“Well, I want to take you somewhere, but we’ll need a car to get there.  It’s not far just that a car would make it so much easier.”

“So come in and I’ll ask her and she can meet you.”

“No - Dad is waiting in the car; he’s just across the street.  I’ll call you tonight.”

She then touched my elbow, turned and was gone.  The man in the car smiled and then waved to me as she climbed in.

Jenny and I had known each other for many years, from travelling to school on the same bus.  But as she is a year younger and two years behind me at school it wasn’t until we ran into each other coming out of a movie that I really noticed her.  Then we started talking on the way to and from school and then she was down the beach with her friends and then we started spending time as just the two of us.

I walked back into the house and found Mum in the laundry.  “Mum, if I drive you to work and pick you up after can I borrow your car, tomorrow?”

“Why and where were you thinking of going?”

“Jen wants me to take her some place.”

“What place?  You’ve only had your licence for two weeks and I don’t want you wandering off too far.”

“Umm, she wants to go to a beach further up towards Avalon.”

“Well, that’s specifically vague.  Avalon is a bit far, but it is a nice drive over to Manly, if you don’t get lost.  She would enjoy that.”

“Mum, we are going where Jen wants to go.”

Mum was smiling so I knew I was going to get the car.

“When you know where you are going – then come and tell me.  But unless it is hours away I’m alright with you taking the car.  It will only be the two of you won’t it?

“Yes, Mum.  Thanks”

I went back to the book I was reading.  But couldn’t easily settle in, my sister had the television on too loud and Mum kept having me to do chores around the house.  Then there was the distraction of what did Jenny have in mind for the next day?
After dinner the phone rang and Dad answered knowing that it probably was for me.  Dad thought he was a charmer when it came to speaking to my girlfriends and proceeded to talk to Jen for a few minutes before handing over the phone.

I took the phone and went into my room.

“I wish Dad wouldn’t do that.  He talks to all my friends.”

“Don’t worry about it, Tim.  Your Dad is pretty cool on the phone - I’ll have to meet him one day.”

“Alright, I can cope with him chatting up my girlfriend.  So what is happening tomorrow?  Mum wants to know where we are going before she’ll let me have the car.”

“Well this is something we need to discuss.  I want to take you to a beach over near Mosman.”

“That’s across the harbour – Mum said I could take you as far as Manly so that will be okay.”

“That’s great, but don’t interrupt – I‘m trying to say something so that it won’t freak you out.”

“I’m presuming it is a harbour beach so there is no surf – that is freaking me out already.”

“Shut up and listen for a moment.  Alright?”

“I’m listening.”

“Well the beach I want to take you to, well it is a nude beach.  I’d really like you to want to come with me.” Jenny blurted.

There is about 80 more pages to come
