i'm glad this article doesn't make too big a deal of the adjective they're dealing with, but what really bothers me is those sandals. they look like blood clots baloon-animaled into shoes

I liked the article. And it made me think about investing on a pair of hiking sandals.

Because our summers are so hot and the trails are often very sandy the "all terrain" sandal is very much the "right" thing to wear. I have also found them useful on coral beaches and reefs, stony deserts and in and out of canoes when trekking in Borneo or the Amazon and Orinoco basins.

Not very good for trekking in the Austrian or New Zealand Alps in winter.

Love this article. Very informative. I can definitely see the appeal of hiking sandals. Especially here in Florida where you need support, but it can get/be wet.

Very well structure and informative article.

I have often gone hiking naked here in Florida. In usually pick a less popular trail and then just judge the situation when i get there. If it seems secluded then I'll go for it.

I only go in the cooler days, so mosquitos aren't a concern.

I always go for the more woodsy trails so there is plenty of tree cover and sun burn isn't a concern.

I just have to bring my water and listen out for other hikers as the day progresses.

I have only once encountered a fellow hiker who, after I retreated and covered, apologized to me for interrupting my day! I was pleasantly shocked by that positive encounter.

I always strive to just avoid others as hiking naked in Florida, could be acceptable in some situations, it is not explicitly legal. Due to the strangely conservative nature of most Floridians it is best to avoid them to avoid being charged with some ridiculous sex crime.

I recommend Lowa tramping boots for NZ Alps hiking. Lots of sharp scree stones around the place.

I've just gone the sneaker option for Aussie summers, and I make sure I finish the hike somewhere I can swim to cool off!
