Title: Video: The Same River Twice
Post by: Danee on August 06, 2011, 12:19:20 pm
Synopsis

If you could look your future in the eye, would it recognize you?

In 1978, on a breath-taking trip in the Grand Canyon, filmmaker Robb Moss and a group of free-spirited friends and lovers took a month-long trip down the Colorado River. Cutting between footage of their youthful, often naked, unscheduled lives and the complex realities of their adulthood today, the film creates a compelling portrait of cultural metamorphosis. From running rapids to running for mayor, The Same River Twice is a story of change, choices, and of finding one's place in the world.

I got the DVD from Netflix and it was really good.  It was cool to see how much fun it must have been for them to be on the river.  And then to see them looking back on those days as they were older.

I have yet to see either movie (BTW the first documentary which is featured & updated in this film is called "Riverdogs") but I love one bit from the trailer.  Riverdogs features a lot of nudity, most nonsexual because it's about a bunch of outdoors-hippie types rafting down a river where they have little fear of getting arrested for it.  In the trailer one of the guys (who has since become some sort of a typical professional worker) said that when one of his co-workers found out that he's in a documentary about a bunch of naked hippies spending a month rafting a river the co-worker said "I never even pictured you as the kind of guy who would wear shorts."

I've seen this movie (The Same River Twice). I wasn't too impressed with it. If I remember correctly, there wasn't enough connection between the past and the present (I would have liked to see more going back and forth, with more storyline put in), and the movie may have been a bit short. I know the movie probably wasn't planned when they were riding down the river nude, but the director/maker of it could have done a bit more. But hey, everyone has to start somewhere.
