Title: Buying Nudist/Naturist Magazines
Post by: andrewg on September 25, 2013, 12:16:55 pm
I enjoy reading the two main Aussie nudist magazines TAN and Australian Sun & Health. I get the digital versions of these but still enjoy reading the physical magazine so I often grab a copy from the newsagent. There are a few newsagents around where I live/work that sell these two magazines. I find it rather amusing to see the different reactions from the newsagent employees when I purchase these magazines. I often also purchase another type of magazine to put the employee off guard with the nudist magazine given to them on the bottom.

Those of you that purchase nudist magazines, do you get embarrassed when purchasing? Do you worry who is going to see you purchasing? Any strange/funny reactions from the cashier or other shoppers when purchasing ? etc...

I remember buying H&E in shop once, the cashier seemed a bit rushed to put it through and take my money. Other than that no I have never had any funny looks.

I have never seen a nude centered publication in the magazine stand in the US other than those for pornography. I wish that was not the case. It would be great if everyday american's had more access to the lifestyle. Looking forward to seeing the different cultural views when my wife and I do some travel.

Leah,

I have actually never bought a porn magazine (full disclosure, in high school I had a good friend who got hold of a couple so my curiosity was satisfied there) but I remember them being available at most grocery stores. I haven't looked for them at corner street stand but I'm sure you could find them in many. They are covered so you can't see the pictures just the title of the magazine.

Haven't done exactly that but a few years ago when Art Monthly made the news for using Olympia as Lewis Carroll's Beatrice Hatch Before White Cliffs as its cover image (in response to police confiscating then returning certain of Henson's artworks then on display at a gallery) I bought a copy after it had been given the all clear by the classification board and the person on the counter briefly asked if that was the one that caused the controversy. I said it was and we had a bit of a chat about how the magazine intended it to restore balance to the conversation. The counter person wasn't into art but certainly didn't think there was anything wrong with an image like that.

When "Borders" book stores used to exist, they carried "Naturally" magazine. A very VERY velveeta read. I bought one for shits & giggles.

I joined the federation a while ago and they have their own magazine they send 4 times a year. I liked reading through it but it comes in a fully transparent foil and since I live in a student complex and all incoming mail is thrown on the pile for everyone to sort, I asked them to not send me physical copies. I don't feel like it would be a bad thing for others to know at all, but I just don't feel too comfy at the place I'm living at now . When I move in not too long I'll probably sign up again.
