Title: Wild Swimming
Post by: Brendarella on March 18, 2018, 04:59:03 pm
The term "wild swimming" is used to describe swimming in a natural environment, such as a river, a lake or a deep stream.    Based on this, I'm assuming that "skinny dipping" is used to describe naked wild swimming.

If you want to have a go, you can use the following link that will take you to a crowd-sourced map showing you where your nearest wild swimming areas are.  If you want to locate the naturist wild swimming areas, there's a series of "Activity" check boxes down the side of the page and you can untick every box except "skinny dipping".

Here's the site.

Please remember that it's a good idea not to do this alone because it can be dangerous to swim in the wild. You need to look out for natural hazards such as getting entangled in underwater plant tendrils and stumbling on sharp, wet rocks.

Good tip on not going alone for safety reasons. I never thought about it like that.  :like

This short film captures the thrill of naked swimming.  It's taken in Snowdonia lakes in the UK.

Great post, thank you for sharing the site! It’s definitely a great resource to find naked swimming spots, let alone open swimming locations.

Oddly enough it does state that the San Francisco Aquatic Park is one of the places that has “skinny dipping” in the filter. It’s such a public area and with SF laws on public nudity, I have to wonder if that’s an official policy. Not to mention the bay has cold water seemingly all year round aha.

If it is true, I hope I’ll get around to it or develop the tolerance for it. Folks do “polar bear swims” during winter without wetsuits. I’ve been hesitating bc of the temperature and also wetsuits tend to be expensive. Going nude and being able to be comfortable in cold water temp would be awesome, not to mention saves money on getting a wetsuit or swimming shorts for that matter aha

There's also http://www.swimmingholes.org if you're in the U.S.

It doesn't seem to get updated often but it gives you a rough idea of what's out there.
