Post by: Ємαиυєℓ™ on August 17, 2012, 06:16:11 pm
In another forum a topic like this made me discover beautiful movies that i'd never saw before, so let's go! Post the last movie you saw!

City Of Joy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103976/) imdb

Man...someone's rough on it. I loved The Heat!

Try watching The Call. I haven't seen Halle Berry in a movie (if I had, it was a long time ago), but she did excellent.

Saw "Kick-Ass 2" over the weekend.  I don't know why it is the critics are knocking it so horribly.  It is by no means a terrible film.  It is not better than the first, but does well for a sequel if you ask me.

Philomena.  Not quite what I expected but not bad either.  On a side note, I recommend seeing Wadja if you like movies about other cultures filmed from their perspective.  In this case it's a Saudi Arabian story filmed from a Saudi's perspective.

The scarlet witch/quicksilver bit? Yeah cant wait to see them in days of future past. I wonder why they set up thanos, the collector and the infinity jewels and then went for age of ultron and dofp instead. I hope it's all a big misdirection and they haven't just cjanged their minds halfway through the writing process or are going to make us wait for another six films to see a stoty we'd rather see anyway.

Guardians of the Galaxy will make things make more sense. Also, Scarlet Witch isn't gonna be in Days of Future Past, and the Quicksilver that DOES appear in it isn't the same one in the post Cap2 stinger. Why? Licensing issues...the X-Men property as a movie franchise is owned by Fox, while this big interconnected continuity is in-house by Marvel Studios. So, they're not related. At all.

Oh! I didn't notice that it was a different quicksilver.  but I did think I hadn't heard mention of wanda maximof in dafp. So I wonder what story they are setting up then?

The licencing issues are daft. it would be ace to see wolverine and spiderman in an avengers film but it's unlikely I guess

3 Avengers movies. Ant-Man is gonna be the next Marvel Studios movie to look forward to, as that will lead into "Age of Ultron" since the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, is the one that created Ultron in the first place. As things move forward from there, we'll probably see the other 5 Infinity Gems get rounded up and then we'll see Thanos wreck faces in Avengers 3.

I went to see spuderman 2 on saturday. I enjoyed the film but I think they chould have done with two fewer  vilians.  Electros story  was ripped off from catwoman,  the green goblin story missed it's emotiobal beat because there was no establishment of a close relationship between the two (I haven't seen you for ten years but I suddenly feel betrayed and abandoned?) And rhino was pointless. They took the camp melodrama out of the villains and what was left was two spoiled bratts and a mech for some reason. Also if was rhino I'd have shot spidey and the kid during their ten minute conversation infront of the fully armed tank.

Dude, fucking spoiler tag that shit. The movie isn't even out in the US yet.

Very interesting.  The two lead actors were well cast.  I have no problem with subtitles a lot of movies I like are subtitled.  Although I don't speak Hindi which was the language I was told it was in.

Godzilla.  Without spoiling anything, it could've used a little more monster-on-monster combat scenes but it gets a passing grade.  Certainly better than the 1998 failed attempt.

Saw Godzilla over the weekend.  Needed more monster-vs-monster action and more screen time for Bryan Cranston.  Good film over all.  Far better than the atrocity from 1998 (though a self-made film with a Godzilla action figure and a Lego city would even still be a better film then the '98, but I digress).

That movie needed a better writer that actually paid attention to the movies it's attempting to be a prequel to. That's my only problem with the upcoming "Days of Future Past" movie...it keeps that bastard movie in.

Agreed.  I've been having so much trouble trying to figure out the direction of the more recent films.  Are they trying to tie in the previous films or are they rebooting the franchise?  That's why I'm on the fence about seeing this new one.

Everything in the Fox "X-Men" films is connected...and that was all well and good until "First Class" happened.

(I should note, that I haven't seen, "The Wolverine"...so it's the only one I can't comment on, but I heard it was good.)

I went to see Days of Future Past today. I don't want to give too much away but it seems like they are completely rebooting the franchise. The original 3 movies now seem irrelevant which is really annoying because I actually preferred them to the more recent movies. Having said that Days of Future Past is actually not a bad movie in itself, its just frustrating because of the impact it has on the first 3 movies. Its hard to explain without actually giving away spoilers but you will understand when you see the movie yourself.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. I had heard mixed reviews with people either saying it was awesome or one of the worst movies ever. I actually thought it was somewhere in between. It wasn't great but it was certainly better than 3 and 4. My only real problem with it is that it was too predictable, but then horror movies are pretty much all I watch so I can predict what happens in most of them.

Recently saw "A Million Ways to Die in the West".  It had it's funny moments, but there were times where the film dragged and scenes were longer than they probably should've been.  Amanda Seyfried was just not very good in the screen time she did have.

Overall I give this film a 2 1/2 out of 4 stars.  If you are a fan of Seth MacFarlane, "Ted" is certainly a better comedy film than his latest outing.

I have heard mixed reviews about it. Might wait until it comes out on Bluray. There is a point where a franchise such as this can start to be overdone. They need to know when enough is enough and leave on a good note. Unfortunately money making usually gets in the way of this...

The first movie entirely in an Aboriginal language. The Yolŋu one.
Award-winning 2010 movie.
It tells a two-brothers-in-love-with-the-same-woman story inside a story about the same subject.
Dress code throughout the movie: human skin.
There is a scene where a tribe A men group meets a tribe B guy who hides his penis, which they find suspicious LOL

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I had fun watching the movie, but wasn't completely sold on how they transformed in to mutants... and how they learned to be ninjas... Call me old fashioned but I much rather like and accept the original story on how they were transformed in to mutants when the original cartoon series ran. The Expendables 3.  It is a solid action film.  But the one thing that disappoints me, albeit a minor thing, is because of the PG-13 rating the violence isn't as graphic as the previous installments.  An R rating would've made this perfect.

"The Sound of Noise". It's a foreign movie. Perhaps a local one for some of you. Basically a bunch of musicians commit crimes with music and a detective that hates music has to stop them. Very "The Space Between Mr. Frear's Ears".

The Interview.  The film has it's moments, but overall it is not all that great a movie.  I remember thinking to myself as I was watching it "Kim Jong-Un is pissed off over THIS film?"  Kim clearly hasn't seen Pineapple Express or This Is The End because no one on this planet believes that James Franco and/or Seth Rogen would be successful in assassinating anyone.

The Homesman. Hilary Swank and Tommy Lee Jones.
By coincidence (or not really as there would have been nothing unusual about it) includes scenes of naturism.
It's a trip down the rabbit hole of how the west was settled and by whom.
Contains disturbing scenes but very much worth watching.

The last movies I watched were The Theory of Everything and Inside Llewyn Davis. They were both great films, though quite different. The former was an excellent biopic that did justice to its subject, Stephen Hawking. The latter was a Coen Brothers comedy with a strong musical element. The soundtrack for that film is beautiful.

Rurouni Kenshin : Tokyo Inferno

It's the second movie of the Kenshin live-action trilogy and it is a really good trilogy.

Kenshin is my favourite anime of all time and I just rencently discovered there are live action movies. It is much more "realistic" in that format but it fits the medium better. The actors are amazing too and very well cast.

You don't really have to watch agents of shield for the avengers since the show doesn't impact the movies. But it is interesting seeing how the movies impact the show.

S.H.E.I.L.D.  is a stand alone tv series that is used to advertise Marvel's movies by tying in characters from the series to the movies & visa versa. They are trying to get the series fan base to go see the movies & the movies fan base to watch the series. It's a plan to make money two different ways for Disney (owner of Marvel).

I'd only watch Captain America Winter Soldier before watching Ultron and maybe the last 5 minutes of the last episode of Agents of Shield. Even then you can figure out what is going on without seeing the other ones.

I saw Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ex Machina. The second Avengers was amazing! The only Marvel Cinematic Universe film I've enjoyed more was Winter Soldier. Ex Machina was one of the best sci-fi films I've ever seen about artificial intelligence. It was brilliantly acted, well-written, and beautifully shot, with great ideas and images that stay with you for days afterward.

Are you a SHIELD fan?

A two hour film where one hour and forty-five minutes of it is pure, mindless, non-stop action.  It gets my seal of approval.

Mad Max: Fury Road

It was extremely derivative of Burning Man - aesthetically almost everything in the movie was at BM in 2013 - either the artists that made the movie were there taking notes or those were the vehicles and costumes that were there. Bizarre. Good movie but the resemblance was distracting. I hope they were the artists otherwise they pulled off one hell of a rip-off.

Not especially deep nor a lot of character development - just like the originals - straight up action. I like how they rekindled (reignited?) the franchise and provided just enough of a character link (Max's flashbacks) to make it recognizable to fans of the originals.

Hopefully there will be more to come.

I want to watch that movie so much! Did you watch conventional or 70mm?

I watched the 70 mm one ! What's more I was in the front rank, with no annoying people around me... Amazing sensation  What I liked most was the dialogs !

The last movie I saw in theatres was Star Wars: The Force Awakens for a second time, which was even better than the first time! I caught a lot of the details that I had missed the first time around. The last movie I saw period was Pride, which is AMAZING! It's probably my new favourite LGBT movie. It's even more incredible because it's based on a true story!

Independence Day: Resurgence.

This was an alright film.  Lots of over-the-top CGI sequences as I expected.  Some problems I did have was with the characters leading this vehicle.  I only seemed to care about the characters that returned from the 1996 film and the new leads did nothing for me.  Another was the explanation of the line of succession of the US presidency.  I won't give away much beyond that, but there was something unrealistic about this particular thing.

To me, the whole movie seemed unrealistic. Of course, it's an action/Science fiction film, but just seemed more like a Michael Bay movie. Just lot's of action, with over the top CGI and not much of a story. This movie did nothing for me. It should have stayed as how the first one ended. I do agree on the point you made from the actors from the first film. Good to to see them again.

Star Trek Beyond.

Like the previous installments, this one is very entertaining.  Lots of action, a good plot, and a nice in-film tribute to Spock/Leonard Nimoy.  The film also paid tribute a second time to Nimoy and to Anton Yelchin in the end credits.

Sharknado: The 4th Awakens.

Four is enough.  Anthony C. Ferrante needs to quit making these.  I understand the need to intentionally make this a bad film, but the previous installments were much more enjoyable.

Spoiler alert:  There will be a fifth film. :dontgetit

I just saw "Nocturnal Animals" starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams, written and directed by Tom Ford. The entire opening title sequence is a series of robust women dancing naked. At the screening Tom said he fell in love with these women because they were so comfortable in their own skin; they celebrated their bodies and he hoped the sequence did that celebration justice.

I thought it was. It did feel a bit anti-climactic I suppose, but it didn't feel disjointed with the rest of the film.

I watched a few movies over the weekend; The Huntsman: Winter's War, London Has Fallen and Don't Think Twice.

The Huntsman wasn't bad, i'm not sure if I preferred it over Snow White and the Huntsman or not. London Has Fallen is ok if you just want to switch your brain off and watch something entertaining and Don't Think Twice has a kind of documentary feel about it but well written, has some good laughs but was a bit slow in places.

What I will say about this film is that it is made for the fans of the video game series as it stays mostly true to the series' mythos.  If you've never played an Assassin's Creed game, I would not recommend seeing it as you might find yourself confused about the plot.  As for the film's story, it was quite slow in the beginning but it does pick up with plenty of action.  The ending seemed to imply that there will be a sequel.

Hosted Women's Naked Movie Night this past Monday and Tuesday. We watched "20th Century Women" and "Hidden Figures." The first isn't so good. The actors are great, but the story is odd and never really connects. "Hidden Figures" is my #1 movie of 2016. I have seen it four times now. Great story, fantastic music, excellent performances, and very timely.

In case anyone is interested... My TOP FIVE Movies of 2016:
1. "Hidden Figures"
2. "Deadpool"
3. "La La Land"
4. "Moonlight"
5. "Nocturnal Animals"

Foreign Film: "A Man Called Ove" (Sweden, naturally)

Documentary: (tie) "Tickled," "Weiner"
[ha! Tickled, Weiner. It's actually two different documentaries.]

Worst movie of the year: Warren Beatty’s "Rules Don’t Apply"

I never heard about Hidden Figures until it was nominated for awards, and even then I never even saw a trailer or TV spot for it until just the other day.  I finally watched the trailer and now I really want to see it, it looks so good!  i haven't seen 20th Century Women yet either.  It really caught my eye because it takes place in my hometown and I recognized so many places in the trailer, it's a shame that it's not very good though.

Logan.

This film was a great send-off for Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart in their respective roles as Logan/Wolverine and Charles Xavier.  It didn't have the over-the-top special effects from previous X-Men installments and that was a good thing.  My hope now for future X-Men films follows the character of Laura/X-23.  Dafne Keen was exceptional in her big screen debut.

If you haven't seen Logan yet, see it.  I highly recommend it.

I actually saw Kong: Skull Island last night and it was so much fun!  I definitely recommend this movie for anyone who likes action/adventure movies with great comedy thrown in throughout.

And if you see it, be sure to stay till the very end for the post-credits scene that sets up the next epic cinematic universe.

Saw Power Rangers.

It is a fun film and I like the nucleus created with the five actors playing the Rangers.

I have a few minor gripes (no last names for Trini and Zack, anti-climatic focal point regarding the Zeo crystal), but my biggest gripe for me was Rita Repulsa.  I like Elizabeth Banks, but I felt the writers missed an opportunity to make her a more menacing villain and I believe Banks can do that.  Instead, we got treated to a cliched super villain that in all honesty made me cringe.

Aside from the drawbacks I see, I do recommend seeing this film.

I saw Beauty and the Beast and it was really good.  There are things I liked better about the animated one and things I liked more about this one (like filling in plot holes that the animated one left out), I still prefer the animated one but overall this one was still really good.  As much as I love Emma Watson I feel that she was the weakest point of the movie, every scene she was in she was outshined by the other actors or the beautiful look and CGI of the film.  It's always a shame when the lead actor/actress is the weakest link but I would still recommend it to anyone who loves the magic of Disney movies!

Also Power Rangers. I liked it! I liked the way the Rangers were really fleshed out rather than a band of goody-two-shoes, I liked the action, I liked the story, but would it have killed them to play the theme song a little longer, or instead of Kanye 'my ego is bigger than my wife's bum' West?

Indeed. It was incredible. And while I was initially skeptical of moving the setting to WWI time and missing the chance to place one DC character in their original time frame more or less, from a story standpoint it make perfect sense.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Sicario is a great tense movie and horrifying as hell given the fact the movie is pretty firmly rooted in reality and you get the feeling this stuff goes on all the time in the real world to an extent we'll truly never understand. It's about the drug war in Mexico and the involvement of the U.S. The sound design is also amazing.

Cautiously optimistic about the upcoming spinoff.

Just watched Disney's Tarzan.  Shipwrecked couple die and their baby is rescued and raised by apes. Years later, baby is a grown adult called Tarzan.  He's never heard a human speak and he learns English from three British exploers who have just arrived on the island.

Trouble is, even though they all have an impeccable English accent, he ends up with an American accent. Where did THAT come from?

I saw IT and it was really good! Pennywise the Dancing Clown and the scares were good and creepy and all that but what made this movie stand out was the kids. The young actors did a great job, and their characters and stories were what drove it forward and made us care and connect. Very well done

I watched Despicable Me 3 last night. It had some good laughs but it seemed to be trying too hard. The 80's disco link was a nod to the older generation who will have been brought along to watch with the kids but unfortunately for me, it succumbed to the fate of a sequel that doesn't live up to the original.

While I like the concept, it seems to me it was poorly executed and the end left me befuddled.  Even with fantasy elements to try and explain things, it was not enough for me to give it a positive review.

Another strange film I've randomly found called Konrad based on a novel and German film called Konrad oder Das Kind aus der Konservenbüchse

Quote
Konrad is a perfect instant child "born" in a factory at age 8. Due to a mistake in the factory's computer, Konrad is delivered to Bertie Bartolotti, a woman whose life and appearance are in a constant state of disarray. Konrad arrives looking like a gremlin, but when Bertie pours a nutrient solution over his head he changes into a fully-developed, perfect 8-year-old child. The factory realizes a mistake was made, and recalls Konrad, but he does not want to leave his new family and friends.

Obliviously made in the context of very new technology IVF usually called test tube babies at the time and the first real fear around designer babies. Taken one step further by skipping the baby stage.

The Last Movie Star starring Burt Reynolds which is about a mostly forgotten movie star who is now old but is invited by some hardcore fans to a festival in honour of his movies, it has a slow start but becomes a warm and emotional movie as he also includes a few trips down memory lane visiting the places he knew. Burt gives the performance of his career.

I saw Infinity War last night and it was amazing! This is the first movie to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras so I had to see it in IMAX of course, and I am so glad I did. That is definitely the way to see this movie if you are fortunate enough to be near a true IMAX theater (not one of those lieMAX ones), I would recommend it. I have never seen such high quality detail in a movie.

Not only was it shot beautifully but the story and action was great too. The fact that they brought together so many characters, storylines, locations, and emotions without it being a jumbled mess just amazes me. 10 years of buildup came together perfectly and I can't wait for the next Avengers movie next year.

I went retro today and yesterday and watched Escape from New York/Escape from L.A. while having breakfast.  I had never seen them, but always wanted to.  Good schlocky fun.  The older one (New York) aged a lot better than the newer one because it was just old enough to miss all the bad 90s cgi effects that L.A. had.  But L.A. was 10x as ridiculous and over the top (in a good way), so it sort of evens out.

about half of Barbarella

Dude, Barbarella is fantastic ridiculous summer-of-love stuff.  The music is so...GOOD-bad.  Basically she's a space woman who gives orgasms to the galaxy in exchange for transportation to the next plot point.

I saw A Star Is Born last night and it was amazing! Bradley Cooper did a great job on his directorial debut, he definitely deserves an Oscar nom for this. It looks and sounds so good and the music is fantastic, I wanna buy the soundtrack now. I would say it's one of the best movies of the year for sure.

Saw Bohemian Rhapsody over the weekend.  My only issue was the chronology of the song releases throughout the film.  Aside from that, entertaining movie.  Wonderfully casted.  Rami Malek nails Freddie Mercury.

The new (2018) Halloween. It was alright. They tried to make it serious and artful but it turned out mediocre it isn't as fun as a slasher film should be.. The premise of the movie was just like Halloween H20.

You know i'll  Say this after an article I read on Facebook and after seeing this movie twice Now I completely agree with it Bohemian Rhapsody is critic proof both the song and the movie haven't exactly been liked by critics but there been embraced and enjoyed by the fans. Yes Bohemian Rhapsody is not at all historically accurate it gets a lot of things right but it gets a lot more wrong

Yet as a Queen fanatic I will say this,  I've seen all the documentaries about Freddie Mercury and Queen so I have that for historical accuracy but if I want something that nails the emotion and the euphoria of Queen I watch Bohemian Rhapsody

So for the second straight post here from me.

Bohemian Rhapsody.

Is this the real life

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

What did you think? I was very torn, and I question JK Rowling’s judgement.

Personally, I liked this second Fantastic Animals vollet, with the arrival of the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald, he has a class that I like so much ^^. A well written Senario with wonderful special effects. The film makes links with Harry Potter movies, house elves, Alus Dumbledore, Hogwarts ...
The regret that we can have watching this new saga, and that it's made for a public of pre-teens and adults, and not for young children around 7 years unlike the Harry Potter saga.

Us: Get Out is still the better of the two from Jordan Peele, but that doesn't mean us was a bad film.  Us is a really good suspense thriller.  Peele is on his way to becoming this generation's Alfred Hitchcock.

The Dirt:  Despite what critics are saying about it, this film is fantastic.  They did not hold back on all the overindulgent debauchery that gave Motley Crue their reputation.  If I had one complaint, the ending seemed a bit rushed.

I saw Spider-man: Far From Home this weekend and it was great! I never thought I'd ever see a Spider-man movie with Mysterio as the villain but I'm so glad they did it and did it well. It's a lot of fun.

I also finally watched Creed II this weekend and that was so good! The first time I saw the trailer for this and saw the name Drago, I literally got chills! It was so intense seeing Adonis fighting the son of the man that killed his father. Great addition to the Rocky franchise.

Just saw Spiderman far from home
saw it as well, what were your thoughts on it?

I liked it for the most part, maybe a couple things I didn't agree with but I don't want to mention it for those who haven't seen it yet...Hbu?
I also liked it for the most part, thought it was one of the better Spider Man movies to date

I agree

It was good... But I think Into The Spiderverse was better 😅

Joker.  Amazing film.  Joaquin Phoenix better at least get a Best Actor nomination from the Academy (he should win the Oscar if you ask me).

After seeing Spider-Man: Far From Home, I'm concerned about what is going to happen if Sony and Disney don't reach an agreement to let Spider-Man keep being in the MCU.
I'm sure you've heard by now but they finally did. Supposedly Tom Holland himself had a large hand in it.

I saw Joker last week. As a huge Batman fan I was not interested in this movie at all, but as a cinephile I wanted to go in with an open mind and forget about my Batfandom for a minute. I thought Joaquin's performance was fantastic and the cinematography was amazing, but that's about it as far as positives. The story was pointless and gave a very negative message. It lifts up a famous villain and tries to make us feel sorry for him and understand him when he's supposed to just be a psychotic agent of chaos with no rhyme or reason to his villainousactions.

Looking at it through my Batfan eyes, it was what I was expecting. It was unnecessary and did not fit with what The Joker should be. There were two scenes where I saw the real Joker but that's it. I'm really upset about this movie, and the fact that it's getting so much praise is shocking to me.

I'll agree to that, though I still think Heath did a better job as Joker. The movie's no Killing Joke but it's CLOSE second :)

I'd love to see a movie about joker from "suicide squad"
At the beginning i thought he was too "insane" compared to the classic jokers but kinda liked the craziness as the progressed
