Trucks or large suvs with automatic transmission are known for the transmission breaking much faster than if it were a manual. A manual transmission in general will always be more reliable especially in large trucks or when hauling heavy things.

Driving a manual can also be the most satisfying thing ever. Newer cars might not let you do this, but once you learn your car and get the rev matching perfect. You don't need the clutch to change gears when in motion.
It may seem challenging to learn how to drive manual at first but. The hardest part imo is just learning how to take off smoothly. You got to learn where the clutch starts to grab and give it a little bit of gas as your start to move. I've had a lot of years to practice so I may be biased lol.

I agree with what you said there. I know some people here have a stigma about manual transmission but with a manual I feel you have more control and can get the best from your vehicle.
My dad taught me when I was young on some work vehicles and I did learn what you said about changing gears without using the clutch just by the revs. I also got to drive a 5 ton truck with a 2 range transmission (i'm not sure about the terminology) and getting used to that was fun and satisfying

That's awesome. I grew up driving tractors and my moms trucks. First one I drove was our Jeep Wrangler which was really fun. Driving a tractor with a clutch and a car with a clutch are very similar. Only difference being most tractors you have to be completely stopped to change gears.
Pm me if you like, I'm an open book.

I drive a '95 wrangler and I love that I have control over the transmission. Especially some of the places I get out to.
Trying to unite the lost naked souls of the world. Feel free to PM if you wanna reach out. I love meeting new people.

Seeing young people who know how to operate a standard transmission, let alone genuinely appreciate it, damn near brings a tear to my eye!

I was taught on a manual transmission and I remember the first time I drove an automatic it seemed weird to me

They syncho on mine has bit the dust. There is no way to shift into second gear - double clutching, downshifting, or even from a dead stop. I'm working on muscle memory to go in a U from 1st to 3rd.

I just got my license and am planning to learn stick from my dad in his truck!

I don't know how it works in Canada but in UK if you learn stick or manual you can drive both manual and automatic cars so if it's the same for you guys then you'd be better learning to drive a manual so you're not restricted to only automatic transmission

Message to people intimidated by learning manual transmissions:
The first manual vehicle I drove was an ancient tractor with no synchronizers and absolutely no feel in the clutch pedal. After a while it wasn't hard anymore. It may seem complicated but it gets intuitive after a while.

Its the same here in Canada you dont need a special licence for manual or auto. I have a friend that took drivers ed on a manual but took his road test on and automatic and I think that was a good way to do it

In Ontario (my part of canada) you have to drive with parents or a fully licensed person for a year before you can get your solo license so I can already drive automatic just fine loll

I recently got my license and can now drive both. I think it doesnt make any sense to just do an automatic license, especially when it costs the same.
I'm always open to chat :)

I've Born driving manuale, but at now i have an automatic car and Is a very game changing, i drive many kilometers for work and the automatic Is very confortable for it

There's no better way to drive through roundabout in winter by drifting a bit in around. Manual only!
Unless, I drive around the town. Then automatic transmission is a blessing lol

You need to pass a test in order to drive a manual instead of just an automatic? Here, your license does not specify or limit  you to one or the other.
