Broadway Fan Unite
« on: February 24, 2012, 12:52:50 am »
One of my best friends moved to NYC a few years ago and I try and go visit him as often as my Mom will let me.  We have gone to see as many Broadway shows as we can.  Anybody want to talk Broadway let me know.

Have seen: How to Succeed, Wicked, Loin King, Anything Goes, Memphis, Avenue Q, Billy Elliott, Jersey Boys, Mary Poppins, Adams Family, Chicago, Godspell, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Mamma Mia, Rock of Ages, Seminar and more.

Let me know what you want to talk about and what you are going or have seen.

Hi Mark,

I know this thread is old but wanted to refresh it. My bf and I moved to NYC 4 months ago after a trip to NYC for a long weekend. We decided right then and there that we wanted to have an adventure in NYC for an unknown amount of time.

Now we are here. One of our goals is to see as many shows as possible. We have seen in NYC, Once, Bare- The musical, Sleep no more. In L.A. we had seen Wicked, Lion King, Spring Awakening, Rent, Billy Elliott, Ave Q, Les Mis, Miss Saigon and some smaller things.

Going to see Turn off the Dark (Spiderman) this Thursday. Very excited to see what all of the critics have complained about.

I also lucked out and got a membership to TDF. Gives super cheap tickets to broadway shows and any off or off off broadway show is 9 bucks. So we plan on using that as much as possible.

If you are still coming to NYC would love to meet up and maybe see a show.

Wicked was great. What I didn't know before we went was that my boyfriend had never seen The Wizard of Oz which definitely left big holes in watching Wicked. He had no context for the whole thing.

Are we talking about stage shows and musicals generally? If so I'm not a fan of musicals, but I consider Les Miserables to be one of the finest stage productions of all time. I've seen it fourteen times, although I only paid for two of them  :2345

Highly recommend The Book of Mormon.  Didn't see it in New York, though I did catch the US tour show when it came to San Francisco.  Laugh-out-loud funny, great story, songs are hilarious and it has a good heart to it as well.

Wanted to share this great piece of Art from an Original Austrian Musical

altough there was a Broadway Version of that Musical but was cancelled about 3 weeks after opening and regarding the Material i have seen its better that way. Michael Crafword, yeah okay he "created" the Phantom and blabla... sorry but he destroyed one of my alltime favourite musical for the Broadway so in that link above you can see how it was intended to be

I am not quite sure if there are still the English Songs online anywhere but if you are looking for the "englisch version" that song is called "Endless Appetite" the English lyrics are quite well done ;)

 Endless Appetite (Die unstillbare gier)

Well, all right, no stars tonight
The moon must hide, can't bear to see my face
So many moons have past, so many suns gone down
Too much blood under the bridge
Too many worlds turned upside down

The skies were pure and the fields were green
Fading summer, 1617
The first time I ever drew blood
She was such a beautiful and innocent child
I never knew my soul was cursed for good
I fought to overcome my thirst
I thought I could
But when I kissed her lips, then I had no control
And the furies all ran wild
And when I grasped for life, I always killed
The things for which I yearned
I wish to be a flame and reduce to ashes
But I have never burned

I long to fly in total freedom
And yet these chains keep dragging me down
I want to be an angel of the devil himself
But I am nothing but a creature
Longing for the things I can't have
And the slit goes through my very soul
It's a wound that never mends
Our desires are elusive
And the hunger never ends

When the world has drawn its final breath
And extinguished all the light
There'll be nothing left but a lifeless wasteland
And an endless appetite
Nothing left but a soundless heartbeat
And a ruthless appetite

The preacher's daughter let me in her room
In 1732, to love me was her doom
With her silken blood I wrote a poem of love
Upon her ivory skin
And the bashful page of Napoleon the Great
In 1813 he stood at the gate
When I recall his body, I can't help but think
To consume it was a sin

So many victims washing on the shores
An ocean of pure tears
So many pleas for mercy, howls of pain
Intoxicating fears
I used my body just like a bandage
I used their bodies just like a wound
And I'll never know where they disappeared
But I can see them rising up out of my memories now
Just like a demon rising up from a tomb

And there's no way ever to apologize
Repent or make amends
No release and no redemption
And the hunger never ends

There are those who believe in science
And those who believe in art
There are those who believe in power and wealth
Or in love and matters or the heart
There are those who believe in various gods
In nations, in knowledge, in hell and in heaven
The powers of darkness, the assumption of the light
But I believe in just one god
That of endless and insatiable, immoral, indestructible
And all-consuming appetite

There's a prediction that I now will make
And I'm sure I will be right
When the next millenium finally comes
The god most worshipped in this world
Will be the god of appetite
May the Force be with you, always !!!

Sing along to this one and be a Mormon for 4 minutes and 45 seconds! (unless of course, you already are one)

Rather strangely, I find that half the plot of the book I'm writing just now is hidden in that song  :879

Anybody want to restart this post?  I love Broadway shows. If you do too let’s chat. Most recently saw legally blonde on tour and saw Kimberly Akimbo and Parade on Broadway.
