Pulp Fiction
« on: August 09, 2010, 08:16:55 pm »
As I am a student I thought I'd watch all the "popular" student movies. I tried Pulp Fiction but found it quite dull....switched it off after half an hour. Can anyone explain to me why the movie is seen as a cult movie? What does it have to make it good?

Pretty much the same with me. It was dull and nothing much happened.

You're not alone!

Pulp fiction is popular for the dialogs, not the action.

Also, for those who do love the movie, here's a handy chart.

You can say the same about Hamlet, but at least it feels like something is happening. For me it was just a bunch of not very likeable people talking nonsense.

Some of us enjoy that kind of nonsense.

I'm not saying no-one does. I'm expressing my opinion.

I think this film is brilliant. Its funny, got nice action, and I really do like the dialogue.

At the end of the day, cult films are always hit and miss with people. Some are just so goddamn awful, not even in a fun way and makes me wonder why someone even bothered to get up in the morning.

I loved that movie, although it was rather violent for my taste, and there was a lot of swearing.

Sorry, I can't explain why it is so great.

The soundtrack is excellent too.

Agreed.

It's one of my favorite films. It has nice homages to other films most notably Uma Thurman doing Anna Karina doing Louise Brooks.

Don't forget about the awesome soundtrack! ^^

(By the way, Black Eyed Peas should be burned alive for their remix of the Miserlou track)

Totally agree, the soundtrack is awesome!
Didn't even knew the Black Eyed Peas made a remix of Dick Dale's classic "Misirlou"
Nothing can beat the original one

Personally i don't think Pulp Fiction is a bad movie, but that's just my humble opinion
I like most of the movies directed by Quentin Tarantino

i like Pulp fiction, and Tarrantino's films generally.

i think, for Pulp Fiction, it's a stylistic thing.  it may not be the deepest movie around (although people have read some interesting things into it), but for creating mood and emphasising a certain style (which has become known as "Tarantinoesque") it's a great piece of work.

Wow, I didn't expect so many replies within a day's time :D
Thanks to all who have replied and have (partially) solved the mystery behind Pulp Fiction. Perhaps I CAN bring myself together to watch it again. I should pair it with some ethanol and nudity...perhaps that may add to my enjoyment of the movie.

What do you think of fight club? It's another violent movie enjoyed for its dialogs but it's not in Tarantino style.

Watch it back to back with the Star Wars Holiday Special (on google video).  :345678
