It's on! Peter Jackson's two-film The Hobbit, just recently greenlit after a long stretch in development hell, suddenly has a cast. Specifically, it now has eight dwarves and a Bilbo Baggins.A press release from Warner Bros. now confirms the talk we've heard that Martin Freeman will play the lead role of Bilbo Baggins. Also joining the cast are Richard Armitage, Rob Kazinsky, Aidan Turner, Graham McTavish, John Callen, Stephen Hunter, Mark Hadlow and Peter Hambleton.Martin FreemanArmitage (from MI-5 and the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger) will play Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the Company of Dwarves."Despite the various rumours and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us," says Peter Jackson. "There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave -- exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit."More from the Company of Dwarves -- for you Dwarf fanatics out there: Turner (Being Human) and Kazinsky (EastEnders) are Kili and Fili, respectively, McTavish is Dwalin, Callen is Oin, Hunter is Bombur, Hadlow is Dori, and Hambleton is Gloin. Consider them the Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan of this endeavor
According to Bleeding Cool (via the Doctor Who News Page), Sylvester McCoy appeared at the Armageddon Expo in Auckland over the weekend where he announced to fans that he's been offered the role of the wizard Radagast The Brown, but has not yet signed a contract.
I predict this movie is not going to live up to the standards of the Lord of the Rings Films. Jackson doesn't have mega action scenes to play with or setting up a massive story and world, so he has to focus on other things such as Characterisation and good writing etc. So this film will not have the same effect on audiences as it's predecessors as it's not as epic a storyAlso, I don't think Martin Freeman is the right actor for Bilbo in my opinion, because I only see him as a clueless, hero who just about gets there if you know what I mean. I dont think he can properly be a leading man in a filmBut that's only my opinion, I hope I get proved wrong when it comes out
The apocalypse will have to wait! I want to see The Hobbit first!
In line with the prophecy the world will end as soon as your activity level reaches 100%.
